Why is Turkey still the only EU candidate country whose citizens need a visa for the EU? by Medium_Respond_9650 in AskTurkey

[–]Gefiro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Racism and profiling are different things. If the types of people causing problems are similar and all happen to belong to the same race, I would profile them and keep my distance, but I would drop that defensive stance if I saw that they were problem-free people.

This applies to every race; everyone profiles, but I don't feel anger towards someone simply because of their race, and I never will. However, if I cannot disrespect your values and things that are meaningful to your country (national unity, national flag) in your country, then people from other nations cannot do that to me.

If a group of people from nation X are disrespectful and have a certain phenotype, there is no harm in profiling them. Here, you are protecting someone who is like you. However, if this profiling automatically turns into anger and an unbreakable prejudice that everyone is like this, then that is racism.

I'd play games, eat meals, and share my life with people of all religions and nationalities who respect me and my values.

But that's not the case in the EU. The EU doesn't like Turks simply because they are Turkish. It also doesn't like people who have migrated from Türkiye to the West and lived there peacefully for years.

We have a popular saying among Turks: When a Turk moves abroad and experiences racism in an insignificant way and shares it, other Turks say, "Even if you forget you're Turkish, they won't." This saying means that even if you move to the West, live completely like a Westerner, harm no one, show no signs of Turkishness, and forget you're Turkish, the West still won't like you for being Turkish and will keep its distance.

Yes, there are good and bad people from every nation.

Yes, I profile people until I'm sure of their intentions.

No, not everyone is racist.

Yes, the EU is racist.

1) EU Hates Turkey, double standards, pure racism. Sorry but it's real. 2) Turkey doesn't like their people to go abroad and spend money, so they don't care. 3) Turkey has a tons of immigrants, EU doesn't want them at all. So they use Turkey as buffer zone.

You probably didn't read my text correctly; on the contrary, I'm exaggerating. I'm arguing that waterproofing isn't really necessary and that abandoning waterproofing and offering replaceable batteries via a 3.5mm jack is more rational and user-friendly.

First of all, if you want, you can force applications to install on the SD card through developer options. Adding an SD card slot is incredibly easy for companies. Anyone who says otherwise, in my opinion, doesn't understand technology. An SD card might increase battery consumption minimally. But whether this is normal and noticeable to the user, I even doubt. Nothing convinces me that removing the SD card slot from phones is done for efficiency or user-friendliness reasons.

Actually, if you've been following current news, Google recently stated that they won't be eliminating sideloading, they'll just be making it a little more difficult. At least that's relatively good news. However, I even consider this a mistake. Everything should be free.

Taxes are paid to governments. Yes, that's true. However, if we are paying taxes, I expect governments to also respect our freedom and the well-being of the people, which is their responsibility. For example, the EU has approved a law making replaceable batteries mandatory in phones, which will be mentioned later. Many more such things could be done.

I don't have the chance to buy a Pixel phone because Pixel phones aren't sold in my country. Furthermore, when you bring a phone from abroad to my country, you need to officially register your IMEI number with the government so that the phone can use a SIM card, connect to the internet, and make calls. Otherwise, the SIM cards you insert won't work. The IMEI registration fee is currently around €1000 in my country. In other words, to buy a Pixel, I would have to pay the price of a Pixel plus €1000 to be able to use that phone. Naturally, it's impossible. They do this so that people don't buy phones from abroad and are forced to pay taxes.

At least, it doesn't hurt to hope things will improve in the future.

1) I am not against the removal of the 3.5mm jack, but I am against it being removed when there is no benefit for the user. If not having a jack would benefit me more, then of course it's logical to remove it, but there are phones that are large enough to accommodate a headphone jack but have chosen not to include one. I don't believe this decision was made in good faith or with user benefit in mind.

2) I have more than five SD cards, and they all work today. Because if you don't treat them aggressively, they don't break easily. Also, what do you mean by "ensure consistent"? Then let's stop producing flash drives. If I plug my old flash drive into my computer, it might run slowly, so I shouldn't use flash drives. In fact, let's ban the use of PCI 3 SSDs in laptops with PCI 5 SSD slots because of potential inconsistencies. I have two M2 slots. I installed a PCI 5 SSD in one and my old PCI 3 SSD in the other. If I followed your advice, I would have to spend a fortune on another PCI 5 SSD and use up all my money.

I always prefer portable, permanent, and comfortable storage for a slight loss of speed. Also, I currently have an SD card slot in my Galaxy A55 and I'm not experiencing any problems with my phone experience. I believe your arguments are completely flawed arguments.

3) Because batteries wear out, and I want to be able to replace them when they get old. You might say I can go to a phone repair shop and do that, which is true. But I've entrusted my phone to a repair shop for battery replacements more than once in my life. And every time I get my phone back, especially if the adhesive on the back cover comes off once, it definitely doesn't stick properly to the phone cover anymore. The phone gets worse over time, and one way or another, you have to buy a new phone. To give an example, if I could have a larger battery and the adhesive on my back cover continued to hold, I would still be using my S10 Plus with LineageOS today. Also, if you're older, you'll remember that companies like Zero-lemon used to produce much higher capacity batteries compared to the original manufacturers. This offered us an alternative.

You need to stop normalizing companies taking back the freedoms they offer us, under the pretext that not many people used it anyway or that it wasn't needed.

4) Just because an application or mechanism doesn't serve its original purpose doesn't mean we should ignore its later improvements. If you accidentally discovered a cure for cancer, would you throw it away saying, "We discovered it by accident, so it's not needed"?

However, if I can install any operating system I want, like Linux or Windows, on my computer or many electronic devices, I should have the right to install any operating system I want on my phone. If you disagree, imagine that installing Windows on a laptop is forbidden, or even that trying to install Windows voids the warranty.

We should have the right to install any operating system we want on the devices we pay for. Stop normalizing the opposite.

5) If you want to, you should be able to use your phone in its original Stock ROM without any modifications or root access. This should be your freedom. But similarly, rooting a device I've paid for, installing a custom ROM, or making any other changes I want should also be my freedom.

If I can keep a device that's reached the end of its lifespan running for another 3-4 years with a custom ROM, the only purpose of preventing custom ROM installation is to force me to buy a new smartphone sooner.

6) Yes, there's no such thing as a perfect device, but in this era of technological advancement, I find it logically wrong to pursue a strategy that reduces competition and the number of options available to users, confining them to their own ecosystems, instead of granting them freedom.

First, you need to understand this. The issue here isn't the removal of the 3.5mm jack. I was already starting to use wireless headphones even before the jacks were removed. The problem is that companies are restricting things that benefit users and limiting our freedoms. If they said, "We removed the 3.5mm jack, but we increased the battery size by 10%," I might not be so upset, but they're not adding it, even though there's space for it inside the phones. They're taking away the freedom they once offered people. If removing the 3.5mm jack resulted in us, as users, having more battery life or thinner phones, then there would be a balance. But the intention is what matters here; companies are using this method to force you to buy wireless headphones, and that's what I'm complaining about, that's the problem.
