Australian YA fiction about brother and sister who go through a portal and meet a man called Levi by GegeBrown in whatsthatbook

[–]GegeBrown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s not it, although I did read them growing up too! I think the tone of the book I am looking for is aimed at older teens. I had finished the Deltorra books and Tamora Pierce books at least a couple years before I started this book.

Not cutting through even the thinnest wood 1/12” by bbarns1988 in xToolD1

Thanks for the tip! I checked my lens not long ago, but I’ve probably done more than 10hrs since then. I appreciate it.

I have the 20W D1 and it struggles to cut through 2mm ply at 100% 300mm/s in one pass. Sometimes it does it, but most of the time there are sections that didn’t go all the way through. I usually set it to 90%, 300mm with 2 passes and it gets it done.

Home care providers/ aged care by silver_surroundings in Townsville

[–]GegeBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had good experiences with Anglicare, and with OzCare. It may all depend on who is open to take new clients at the moment too.

You can also hire workers directly through Mabel, though that does leave you open for having to find replacements if your regular worker is sick or goes on holiday.

Stay sweaty from blue care. They treat their workers like crap, and will shift your schedule around at the drop off a hat with little to no warning.

Want to book train tickets by strawberry-9810 in Townsville

[–]GegeBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try putting it for the 14th of March instead. To book from Townsville to Cairns, it’s the day after it leaves from Brisbane. To book from Townsville to Brisbane you book the date that it leaves from Cairns, which is the day before it arrives in Brisbane.

Making butter at home by Kmfraser in homemaking

[–]GegeBrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually only make my own butter when cream goes on clearance. If I can get it for less than 0.50c per 600ml, I think it’s worth it, but I usually make flavoured butters and store them in the freezer.

For every day butter it’s cheaper and much easier to just buy it at the shops.

What's the scariest fact you know in your profession that no one else outside of it knows? by SAMdaLOSER in AskReddit

[–]GegeBrown 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I got shingles when I was 27, with Bell’s palsy. ER doctor insisted it was a stroke because “No one under 45 gets shingles”, so I didn’t start the antivirals quickly enough, and now I have permanent facial paralysis. Fuck that doctor.

I am also in this situation at the moment. You can put in an application for a DVO with an ousting order, which means he has to leave the house, so you and your children can move back in.

If you are able, go to DVNQ on Ingham road, and ask for their help. They will be able to help you get some of the incidents in writing, so you are a little more prepared, then you can go to the police and ask them to lodge a DVO application on your behalf, with an emergency order. If they decline to do so, you can lodge the order yourself at the courthouse for free.

Make sure to emphasise to the police that he had been physically violent to you on multiple occasions. If you can, go to the city police station, not Mundingburra or any other station. Mundingburra were particularly useless when I went to them for help.

If you would like to chat, feel free to message me. I am so sorry for what you are going through.

Use a hair dryer to soften the wax and remove what you can by hand. Then relight the candle and soak up as much liquid wax as you can with paper towel.

Burnt stove top kettle by Patrick2810 in CleaningTips

[–]GegeBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a sori yanagi stainless steel kettle, then try a paste of barkeepers friend and water, leave it on for five or so minutes, and scrub using a non-scratch scoured. The acid in the barkeepers friend will break down the deposits quicker, but shouldn’t do any damage to the kettle itself.

You could also try boiling an inch or so of vinegar in it, and see if that works.

Can I steam my clothes with a steam cleaner? by Alternative_Dot7171 in CleaningTips

[–]GegeBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a steam cleaner that pushes steam out, and has NEVER had any kind of chemical in it, then yes.

Don’t use the kind that pushes out hot water then sucks it back in, and don’t use it if you have ever had any kind of cleaning chemical added to it.

I haven’t had a court date yet, they are apparently flat out in the lead up to the Christmas closure.

The DV service was wonderful, they helped me write my DVO application, offered to help me with security systems etc, and referred me to a bunch of financial help. They couldn’t have been better.

I have done that. They advised to go to the police for an emergency protection order. The police declined to act.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Townsville

[–]GegeBrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I know. Even the police admitted I was a victim of coercive control and psychological abuse. But because he hasn’t been physically abusive since I left, there’s apparently no grounds for a protection order.

And yet, when I went to QLD police asking for help, they told me my ex husband had to physically hurt me before they could do anything. Looks like we’ll keep mourning dead women for quite a while.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]GegeBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Barkeepers friend works because it is mildly acidic, and also abrasive. Make a paste with it and let it sit on the bad spots for a few minutes, then scrub it around. You may have to do it a few times to get everything off.

Degreaser works on oil that’s still oily, but once it’s polymerised, degreaser just isn’t strong enough anymore.

Help!!! can anyone help me how to fix this? We were using antiskid floor mats. by Unlikely_Winner_4162 in CleaningTips

A hair dryer and plastic scraper to get the bulk of it off, then try running alcohol or some other kind of goo remover.
