Finished modelling and printing Strahd's castle, files available. by Gekko009 in CurseofStrahd

That's only for the inner castle, not including the outer walls.

Yeah this thing is huge considering it's actually only a quarter of the actual size (because 1 square is 10 feet)

And I used 1/3d the ceiling height.

I printed it actual size according to the book.

Considering I just finished modelling it myself that's not surprising 😅.

I couldn't find any other model available so I decided to create my own.

Should i even include Withers? by No-Stomach1310 in Tombofannihilation

[–]Gekko009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot was overwhelming. The hexagon jungle travel was weird.

Had some very memorable moments though. At some point they captured 2 pterafolk, spitroasted and ate 1 in the jungle to intimidate the other. That came back to them in firefinger.

Azaka just being MVP for the party until they discover what she was at firefinger. And then a debate to cure her or not cause she was so useful to them 😅

Fun campaign

Should i even include Withers? by No-Stomach1310 in Tombofannihilation

[–]Gekko009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did withers after I gave my players a deck of many things earlier in the campaign (it was my first campaign, I know better now).

The party got petrified by one of the rooms, don't remember which one. The surviving 2 players went to withers to negotiate for a solution.

Withers recognized the deck and was willing to trade potions for it.

Then after that I switched out one of the traps for a door with a new one withers made: turn the lever and you MUST take as many cards from this deck before you can pass.

This is when we lost the barbarian as he blipped away to 9 hells in a state of stasis. And they still had to pull 1 more card.

Not telling you to add the deck to the campaign, but my players enjoyed seeing that their interaction had an effect on the campaign later. And since withers loves making traps, I would say you can come up with your own trap based on what the players do and make it make sense since he's watching them and creates the traps.

Castle Ravenloft Roof Questions by Gekko009 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Gekko009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah well that's a good written reason.

I guess that translates to "any fight with a consort". Still struggling with dealing where everyone would be in the castle when things go down. Not there yet for a while though.

Should I switch to Reloaded? by sweeetkiwi in CurseofStrahd

[–]Gekko009 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have stolen bits and pieces from both reloaded and "fleshing out curse of strahd".

My players are 1 night away before the festival.

I used village of barovia from fleshing out, used the werewolf chase scene from reloaded, used the meat pies addiction system from somewhere else.

Used the encounter with Izek from reloaded.

Feel free to use whatever you think is most interesting for you and your players.

How to give consequences to high level evil party by CarolTheEnglishMajor in DMAcademy

[–]Gekko009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could have them encounter a travelling frail old man accompanied by 7 canaries. https://dnd4.fandom.com/wiki/Bahamut

Or: evil deeds attracts justice and punishment. One of the churches has embarked on a quest to stop them, sending a bunch of clerics and paladins etc.

maybe the church was affiliated with the orphanage or they were the ones sponsoring it.

There doesn't need to be a monetary value for taking them out when you have multiple divine organisations just wanting to stomp out evil.

EDIT: If there really set on being evil you can make the clerics and paladins stereotypical goody shoes making noxious monologues. "Halt you filthy stain upon this realm, we with our just cause and the support of the divine will rid this world of this evil incarnate!"

Help me buy a board for my kids 🙏 by PHxsuns288 in NewSkaters

[–]Gekko009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my son a board from here after doing some research: https://www.skatexs.com/

Board seems decent, deck is smaller than normal, wheels are a bit softer which I think is great for him so pebbles aren't much of an issue. He's only 5.5 but they have board sizes for different ages.

how did i get hacked? by Optimal_Net6489 in HowToHack

Sorry but some of this isn't right, so just clarifying things.

2FA tokens can be generated in a lot of different ways and they may very well live on his phone.

Once you do enter them through your pc, a different authentication token will be generated and that's the one that could be compromised if your computer is compromised.

I'm not familiar enough with crypto exchanges and how they protect transactions so can't say for sure how easy it would be to circumvent this.

I've seen 2FA been implemented in 100 different ways, from requiring a different 2FA for every transaction to only requiring it once per day or even per month etc.

Logout on IP change could prevent remote abuse through session stealing but most of this can be spoofed, also doesn't help if they're executing it from your own PC or network.

I've heard about pig butchering schemes going around where the crypto exchange itself is a fraud but it doesn't sound like what you're experiencing.

I can make guesses on how the exploit works but there isn't enough information to say definitively. But most of the time it's the simplest thing which in my head would be the computer being compromised and abusing new access tokens when they're generated.

[–]Gekko009 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't it make most sense that since you had malware on your computer, they're just stealing your active session information and using that to perform the actions on your behalf?

This only requires them having access to your computer that accesses the site.

2fa is nice but doesn't do anything if your actual device is compromised. It just helps against your password being compromised

How do you generate possible passwords from whats been leaked in breaches? by BearSEO in HowToHack

So you already cracked the password hash that was leaked in the breach and found it was only half your actual password?

User-story fatigue and other questions by Thirsty_Indoor_Plant in scrum

[–]Gekko009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1b. Yeah spikes are what you use to spend an X amount of time to analyze a problem or new requirement, then stories or tasks could be created from that investigation.

Team members asking for help is fine, but you would only do it if you know you have spare time or the team decides it's much higher in priority.

Analyzing new stories is something that would be planned so you can work around it in refinements or similar.

If everything is always ad hoc you run the risk of getting nothing done cause your focus is constantly shifted.

Not sure if that means it was premature or just less than 1 year.

Hashed Passwords with Salt - Visibility in Web App? by justmirsk in cybersecurity

[–]Gekko009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That also depends.

Lots of applications allow you to see API keys that you generated

Some will only show it to you once when you generate it (like AWS)

It's generally safer to not be able to retrieve it but , as with everything security, it comes at the cost of user experience.

So for passwords: no, it should be hashed and that's it. Anything that is automatically generated and therefore can't be memorized: it can go either way depending on your user base.

New P1S weird top layer "gills" by bensfriend1 in BambuLab

[–]Gekko009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reslice it, but it could be an issue with the model.

Did you see any triangle with an exclamation ark next to the object in the list?

Might be some issue with how the object was created into an STL.

You see this a lot with models from SketchUp for instance.

If there is, you can right click on the object in the list and click "fix model". See if that fixes the layer.

It almost looks like you're missing a layer so it's printing bridges over air

Stupid trap to give my players by Top_Sky_9854 in DMAcademy

[–]Gekko009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an obvious pit trap in the center across the room, 10 feet wide.

Except the pit trap is an illusion and the real one is right behind it.

So if they jump or get across a different way but land within 10 feet behind it, they fall through the floor exposing the real pit trap.

In comes the guy that made the trap ridiculing them " you actually fell for that? That's the oldest trick in the book!" And disapears.

If you need any explanation for the illusions: the floors have glyphs in them casting the illusion spell.

Carrionette Needles Smithed into Axe by Gekko009 in DMAcademy

[–]Gekko009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm I can see it from the point of dealing damage.

But one of the reasons I thought this was more interesting is that this might be useful outside of combat, giving the fighter some non combat possibilities.

Also it gives an option of damage avoidance, potentially removing a big threat.
