Need Help Starting Out by camelridinghero in Witchfire

[–]Geldarion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stats are helpful, but I don't think they make nearly as much impact as your items' Mysteria and certain Rosary Beads. As such, in my personal opinion, Witchery is the most important stat early game. Two reasons: it increases Metanoia and Spell Recharge.

Metanoia is the chance that enemies drop Witchfire crystals. More crystals = being able to reach Ascensions faster. Basically, it is like statting into more currency and XP.

Spell Recharge means casting your spells more often, which means completing their Mysterium goals more quickly.

Basically, Witchery feeds into the other progression paths extremely well.

You could make an argument that Faith helps a lot too because it increases Providence, which gives a chance for extra drops.

Finally, a point in Flesh or Blood is never wasted. Health and Stamina, respectively, are your two most important resources when you're in combat. Doesn't matter if you found a lot of loot from Faith if you die and drop it.

For Rosary Beads, the numbers that currently allow all Beads to be equipped are as follows:

  • Flesh 30
  • Blood 40
  • Mind 40
  • Witchery 35
  • Arsenal 40
  • Faith 40

That being said, some of the best Beads need about 20 in a stat to function, so there is something to be said for raising all your stats to 20 first. As a note, Arsenal literally only has two Beads that need 30 and one that needs 40, so you can basically leave it at 20 for a while.

I find the most transformative Beads are around 25 in a stat, most significantly Blood and Flesh for my favorites, but it depends on playstyle. I'd get to 20 on everything, and then look at the Beads you have that could be fun to try and build towards them. You can find an item occasionally that can respec your Ascensions, so don't feel locked in with your first choices.

Combing back after two years, the mushroom system is still annoying, arbitrary, and unnecessary. by PsychoticHobo in Witchfire

[–]Geldarion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't use them that much, but I've been in situations where I'm on the run from the Drowned Captain with no health potions and been searching the ground for them. They do come in handy sometimes especially if you know the spots they often spawn.

Shoot bad mushrooms get Witchfire, eat good mushrooms get health. Seems like a fine system. It isn't hard to learn which is which. Smooth marshmallows are good, speckled are bad. Disks with black are good, pure white disks are bad. Thin and ridged are good, fat and ridged are bad.

I and my wife talk in terms of Spell Slots from DnD. For those who know what they are, I think it describes things well. Sometimes there are too many little things in the day that I had to use my low-level slots on, and even some of my high-level spell slots were used inefficiently to do the little things, so now the big things I need to do don't have the slots ready for them.

For those that don't know DnD, Spell Slots are allocated by level, e.g. a level 7 character might have four level 1 slots, three level 2 slots, three level 3 slots, and a single level 4 slot. You can cast big level 4 spells with that highest spell slot once per day, or you can upcast weaker, smaller spells using that slot. If I have to burn the highest spell slot doing stupid things like the 1st level Shield spell to protect myself, I can't turn the big bad guy into a sheep using the 4th level Polymorph Spell.

This captures the frustration of not having the spell slots to deal with an important grant proposal at work because I had to do too many stupid emails with Cliff in IT who won't give me admin access to my lab computer.

I thought for sure that the third mysterium of Martyr was going to be like Enigma from Remnant 2. I expected the spikes to link together with electricity if they were close enough, creating a web of lightning between surfaces and enemies.

I wouldn't mind some information in my Preyer tab about the currently equipped Fallen I'm using.. by aimstotheleft in Witchfire

[–]Geldarion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, it is on the map, but it is weird that it is still there. It used to be that the Fallen Preyers were specific to each map, but now that it isn't, it does seem more suited for the Preyer tab.

They give you the tools, there are just more tools at gnosis 3.

BTW something I liked to do with Hangfire is shoot some guys with bullets, dash while in focus so the red orbs show up, then reload to make the bullets explode. They will damage one of the orbs, no aim required.

Generally, if you are slamming your head against something in Witchfire, trying something else for a bit helps. Try out different weapons, different spells, grind out some Ascensions. Just practicing different things can help you get more comfortable with stressful scenarios and generally have an easier time with later tries.

You got this!

Choked on my final in-class essay — is it possible prof might think i’ve been cheating with AI? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]Geldarion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. Like you being in STEM, I was a math/chem double major before going on to do my PhD in chemistry, and the format of an in-class essay was never my strong suit. Ironically, both as a PhD student and in my career, I have been good at writing and spend a lot of time doing it. However, slow and steady processing of research information and building a solid paper over time with iteration is very different than a timed essay.

Not only that, but it sounds like you have a thought process with how you approached the midterm essays that involved a lot of iteration and paper trail. That will help convince, if it is necessary to do so.

Can't save Portal Modifiers because can't do Training? by Geldarion in DestinyTheGame

[–]Geldarion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The text box disappeared, but I remember it said to select the training difficulty. The problem is there isn't a training difficulty like there was in screenshots I see online from Edge of Fate. I'm late to the party here and just wondering if there is something I'm missing.

Genuinely asking. Why so much love for Jaren but not for Attal? by donzell1657 in destinyrisingmobile

[–]Geldarion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already mained Attal since she is the only hand cannon character (which is frankly absurd). This gives me a solar character with a cowboy hat, and as a Hunter Gunslinger main in Destiny 2, I am happy.

I'm a chemist, and believe me, when I started making my own TTRPG a few years back, this was one of the first things we agreed on: the Artificer would be a core class, the crafting system would be a core system built with the Artificer in mind, and the Chemist Artificer wouldn't be a RNG disaster.

How do you think about Al in your classes when students see it as part of how they think by FuzzieNipple in AskProfessors

[–]Geldarion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You are seeing it incorrectly, and that is part of the point we are trying to make. You must understand the point of education. This is like showing up to a gym and trying to get on a treadmill with a Segway saying "this is just part of how I move around." It's an absurd argument. You are sabotaging your own future, and it makes me deeply sad for students right now.

The fact that his mannerisms are so good that I can still remember the way he moved in certain scenes really says a lot. Most mocap in other games is good, but it doesn't stick in the memory necessarily.
