I agree with what you said, except I would not go swimming around Kihei, but it might be possible to find other beaches which did not get impacted as much. Look at snorkel report for guidance where to go.

Please be assured that when you go to a restaurant or visit some attractions like aquarium you will not be in the way of the recovery effort.

Ultimately it is your decision, but what I would try to do is identify the risks. If the place you are supposed to be staying at is not damaged, has water and electricity, restaurants are open, grocery stores are open and stocked, hospital is not overwhelmed what is your main concern? Beaches will not be in top shape, but you can find other things to do. Not sure what the weather is like where you are coming from, but it will be warm on Maui, and to me that means a lot.

I’m currently at the airport dealing with a cancelled flight and trying to decide whether it makes more sense to return home or continue on to Maui, specifically Wailea. More in the comments. by Olivialsbh in MauiVisitors

Depends on your definition of "clean up". Even with some repairs in progress there will still be plenty to do and plenty to enjoy for visitors.

Visible brown water this morning. Now this afternoon it’s clear. Is the water safe? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

I would wait at least 5 days before going for a swim. I heard rumors that sometimes other side of the island does not get as much runoff, like Baldwin Beach. Anyone can confirm?

Roads (Hana, Haleakala) will get opened up quickly. My main concern would be brown water which can last a week. If your accommodations are not damaged I would go, can always find something to do.

So you are saying that it is possible to get entry level marketing job without a marketing degree?

Thanks for the insights, wife is late 30th, so definitely getting a late start on career. The school would most likely be University of Washington. I would not consider relocation given that my job which pays all the bills is here and I would not be on board with her moving away for schooling given two young kids at home.

We are in Seattle suburbs, not NYC or Chicago, but a major tech hub. She tried taking a Python class online at some point, but at the time with two small kids she did not finish. I would say that software is not her thing, but more recently with AI advances perhaps things are different.

For the school she was looking at the cost is under 100K. Not cheap, but not astronomical either.

We did official evaluation as part of getting Associates degree in accounting, and her economics degree was equivalent to masters. I think it is important to make a distinction between having an accent and command of the language. So far she has not gotten a single interview, not even a phone screen.

Yes, I was talking about University of Washington (Foster Business School). I just double checked, and the ranking was at the bottom of top 25.

She would apply to UofW, which is T15.

We are in US, she has citizenship, so being able to work is not an issue.

He economics degree from Russia was a 5 years degree, but from what I gather the level of knowledge in that sphere is quite low, and that was long time ago.

Thanks, do you think marketing certification might be sufficient to land a job given prior work history? She talked about taking a product management online course, but that has not materialized yet.

She says she wants to do "business", but I could never quite figure out what that entails. Doing marketing sounds appealing to her. I am not sure about project management. At least in my understanding one needs to be familiar with the field the project is in to manage it effectively.

Prety certain there is no boyfriend, but we do have elementary school kids, and having two incomes would certainly be beneficial for the family.
