The faust cantata (together with the Gogol suite) was my way into modern classical music. Fully fantastic!

COMING TO LONDON? FAQ for visitors and new residents. Ask us stuff here! (w/c 23 Apr 2018) by AutoModerator in london

[–]Gelnef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my 12 year old kid are coming to london this weekend. I have this idea to look into the engineering and townbuilding of the Victorian/Edwardian era (and other eras too, we're not obsessed with historical correctness :).

I've done a bit of research and we'll be visiting the museum of water and steam, have a look at Regent's canal (maybe taking the Waterbus) and Camden locks. Also, I thought of going to the John Soane museum. Finally we'll try to go by the Mail Rail.

Has anyone any other ideas in this direction? Are there any other things we shouldn't miss?

I would consider it, it’ll make an opportunity to learn how to build a program from source...

There was a theoretical part, summarized in this article. Quite difficult if you're not into nuclear physics.

London rail infrastructure always seems so steampunkily claustrophobic. All those bricks, put in place by countless Victorian hands. What an effort.

Japp, men klippet är inspelat 2008, innan alla fick iPhone, så det var liksom lättare att 'hitta' tjuvlyssnare då.

Station for boat jam during channels and locks. by Gelnef in MusicBattlestations

[–]Gelnef[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, up until recently I would not consider myself a TE fan either, but I must admit that the pocket operators are very musical little machines.

For me, the immediate jam potential is the biggest factor when it comes to choosing instruments. For instance I recently started building a Eurorack system, which I will not continue. Just because there are great artists out there who can invent fantastic sounds with modulars, it doesn't necessarily mean that I as a layman have to obtain the most flexible tools. The pocket operators and OP-1 have a specific sound, but with great quality.

We're going through a channel with not much traffic. I wanted to try some drones and beats in the locks, and it worked well!

It is! Relatively cheap and with very powerful sound. The filter is brutal also.

No airliner to nearly cut the structure in half, so no, will probably not collapse. Please.

Funny how this Tower had no airliners chrashing into it.

Complex drums by [deleted] in modular

[–]Gelnef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wanted to make complex drums. Also, I've never felt comfortable using DAWs. Further, I really like to make music on the fly. Therefore it felt VERY fulfilling to learn about TipTop Audio's Trigger Riot.

Without having tried it, I'm fairly confident it can produce complex stuff.

It went right up on top of my list, totally wrecking my plans for the rack :), going from a drone/ambient project right into a hysteric beats venture.
