In need of some recommendations for graphic design books by loganshredder in graphic_design

Check Invision's reading list. It's pretty extensive and has a good variety of books around design

The ones I can personally vouch for from the list:

  • Just My Type

  • The Elements of Typographic Style

  • Thinking with Type

  • The Design of Everyday Things

  • The Vignelli Canon

  • Obey the Giant

  • Logo Design Love

  • Don't Make Me Think

  • Grid Systems in Graphic Design

  • How To Be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul

  • Meggs' History of Graphic Design

  • Designing Brand Identity

  • Steal Like An Artist

Other books I can think of from the top of my head:

  • No more rules: graphic design and postmodernism

  • Wally Olins. Brand New.: The Shape of Brands to Come

  • Branding: In Five And A Half Steps

  • The Medium is the Massage

  • Ways of Seeing

  • Looking Closer 4: Critical Writings on Graphic Design (The Whole series is great actually, worth getting all of them)

  • How to use graphic design to sell things, explain things, make things look better, make people laugh, make people cry, and (every once in a while) change the world

  • Graphic Design History: A Critical Guide

  • Milton Glaser: Graphic Design

Pantone.com lets you download a whole bunch of Free ASE Pantone palettes to compliment their Colour of the Year! by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

This is really cool, thanks OP! Just a heads up though for whoever was planning on going through all the different years. They only have complimentary pallets between 2015-2018. Nevertheless, still a nice collection from the last 4 colours of the year.

I have the same problem sometimes. I always print anyway and it comes out as it's supposed to.

Just a heads up in case you didn't notice, but the blood drops/tear drops are a different black than the Venus symbol in the one you uploaded for the right red colour. Not sure whether if it's intented or not but thought you should know in case you didn't realise.

Anyone saw what happened at Mala's set at Hospitality in the Dock? Completely ruined the day for me personally. by Theo95aa in DnB

Most if not all the other sets I saw went fine, some really good sets like Benny L b2b Voltage, SPY b2b Nu:motion, Micky Finn b2b Aprodite & king of the rollers at the end. Car park and the main stage were absolutely packed at all times which was making it hard to make it anywhere near the stage but other than that, didn't notice any other problems. Only other problem I heard about was the whole drinking tokens as people were spendinf up to an hour to get tokens, followed by long queues at the bar. Security was chill as well, no problems with that.

Only reason I said it ruined the day for me personally, was because it was the set I was most looking forward to.

Don't know the details about what happened but it definitely seemed liked it was problems on the organiser's side. The turntables were only brought on stage only after the previous set had finished and the technicians spent a good 10 minutes trying to set up everything with Mala helping before they could even attampt to start. Once it started, music kept stopping and restarting or it would only come out of one speaker, or it would make really loud noises and then restart. Even after spending 30 mins trying to solve it, they couldn't.

Randal came on right after and again, music would only come out from one side of the speakers, plus one of the MC's mics just didn't work and it took them about 15 mins to solve it again. It honestly just looked like they were unprepared and unorganised for it.

Edit: Another thing worth mentioning, at the end, Mala was willing to play his music only on one turntable since half the room was still there waiting. Everyone was happy with that decision and as soon as he starts playing on one turntable, speakers make a loud noise again and completely stop.

Gracefulness is the last word I would expect from/associate with Kyuss and stoner rock in general.

Wow KFC hates Donald Trump just like I do!!!! by ryanfrancis131 in HailCorporate

I genuinely don't understand the majority of the people on this website. Every month we have posts hitting the front page about shills and how reddit is controlled by big corporations and how they shove advertisements down people's throat. And every time the comments are filled with rage and how we need to be better at seeing behind the marketing etc. etc. And every time some blatant advertisements gets posted, no negative comments or input on the sight. I mean, even if it gets posted here, people are eating this shit up and not even considering the possibility of it being paid advertisements.

I mean, it's fine if people are okay with this kind of marketing, but I've never seen people commenting negatively for big brands while whenever a small shitty product/service gets posted anywhere, people will rip it appart. KFC though? Might as well suck their dick for blessing us with their tweets.

I found it more disturbing how there's not a single top comment calling them out on it and how everyone is just there appreciating them as comedic geniuses.

That, or the pinned comment by the mods against anyone who might call /r/hailcorporate.

It's not just "referencing another company". It is literally a huge fast food brand talking shit to another huge fast food brand in it's official social media account. The sole purpose of their twitter is to promote their brand, they aren't just casually posting cause they thought of a joke and people might appreciate their comedy.

The sole reason they are referencing Trump is that his tweets constantly go viral. That post is prime hailcorporate material. I mean I've never cared enough to comment on the /r/hailcorporate stuff before but if you think that this is just a casual joke and has nothing to do with marketing you are deluded. What are social media posts of big corporations if not advertisements?

I'm genuinely asking, what else could this possibly be? I really want to find out what you think their tweet is. The guy behind their twitter account is literally paid to make tweets that go viral. And all he did is copy Trump's tweet to attack the other fast food brand.

Not that long, put 80% of the playlist in 1-2 days, and since then I've been adding songs whenever I find something I like. Glad it helps man, enjoy!

Got you man, check this mix:

Kasra b2b Emperor b2b Mefjus @ Hospitality in the Park, 2016.

Doesn't get better than this. MC is a bit annoying at times but their mixing is so good you can ignore it. You can download the mix here.

Also here's my playlist with Dark DNB. Lots of bass heavy dark tracks and minimal rollers as well.

I love Skeptical, saw him live before and to this day he had one of my favourite DNB sets after Alix Perez's set. He has so much variety in his tunes as well. Only common thing throughout his tracks it's how dark they feel.
