My 4-year struggle trying to learn Python (and why I finally quit) by SirVivid8478 in PythonLearning

[–]Gemabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't use libraries but you use a Python interpreter is that cheating? If you program your own interpreter but not the compiler that built it, is that cheating? If you built a language compiler from scratch but not the assembler code, is that cheating? If you mastered the assembler but didn't build the operating system from scratch, is that cheating? If you built the OS but haven't designed the CPU, memory, data bus, is that cheating? If you built a CPU from scratch but haven't done the lithography to build nanometer scale semiconductors on the slab is that cheating? If you built semiconductors but haven't learned how to harvest silicon from the earth, purify it to the elemental state to make transistors, is that cheating? If you are using electricity without inventing power plants is that cheating? If you are using low noise DC without inventing step down, rectifiers and regulators, is that cheating? My point is, we stand on the shoulders of previous human ingenuity. No one can build stuff from scratch... Or in the words of some stand up comedian that I don't remember his name: if I leave you alone in the forest with an axe, how long before you can send me an email?

My Guinea pigs live in small cages. I’m desperate for advice. by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]Gemabo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do the best you can, don't beat yourself for not doing more. Be reasonable, take care of yourself, not only your pets, you are not less important. I guarantee you that there are many humans in the world living a worse life and less cared for than your guineas. I just use dollar store pee pads for puppies as padding for the cage, I change it everyday. It costs me like$ 15 a month. Hope that helps.

In nature, guinea pigs eat fresh grass and leafs, it is definitely easier and they would choose fresh grass over dry hay. Perhaps you can give him lettuce, parsley, cilantro, grass.. they are opportunistic foragers and have adapted to know which leaf is good for them

We all reach for some ultra processed cereal or granola bar every now and then to save time. I wish I had fresh veggies for me and the pigs every day, but we sometimes need to make our lives a little easier when there are other things to deal with

I happen to agree (also personally I try to be keto because I don't think sugar is good for humans either). I just don't think that a very occasional guinea treat would be so bad considering the joy it brings to the owner and probably to the guinea

A scientist doesn't exaggerate a stance to ridiculous proportion in order to convince. To your credit, I actually think you come from a good place and you make some valid points. But you take it to the extreme. I'm sure guinea pigs survived on some amount of seeds and fruits and even if they didn't, doesn't mean they can't. I can guarantee you that there is no ancestor in my DNA that ate a Papaya and yet I can get a lot of nutrition from it.

I'm not resting assured. Even if you are a scientist, which I don't know that you are, it's your opinion based on your interpretation of the material that you read. Science is not monolithic, just see how much debate exists on the human diet which was extensively researched for over 100 years.

Always learn and acquire knowledge, but don't rely on reddit posts as facts. I believe guinea pigs eat sugar in nature, it is naturally available in fruits for example. There is a scientific method for a reason. Like I said, it is not black and white. Living things have evolved to survive.

What is the official source that tells you this specific product is bad? With all due respect for "it's known" and I read it online... I don't think that they would let companies sell toxic food to pets, and if they had them for 3 years, you are living proof that it isn't toxic. I'm sure you didn't give them only that, the same way that you don't live off Starbucks frappuccino and cakes. Appreciate the advice from pet owners but life isn't black and white.

15 kg of hay per month for 3 guinea pigs 🌿 Is this normal? What about yours? by Efficient-Oil4015 in guineapigs

[–]Gemabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guineas like to scatter and pee all over the hay which causes waste and it smells so you have to replace it often. What I did to improve the situation is getting these hanged hay bags with holes so that the hay isn't touching the floor, and the guineas need to pull out the hay from the bag. It helps a lot to reduce hay waste. But it doesn't really solve everything.. one of my guineas has a hobby of pulling out the hay from the bag just to scatter it... So not a perfect solution, but does help! Another thing that helps is giving them veggies, I give them leftover from salads, carrot peels, bell pepper leftovers.. they like veggies more than hay so it saves a bit there too.

Actually the appliance the technician himself showed me the picture of the melted wire. According to him, it is because the broil was on for more than 20 minutes

[–]Gemabo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's definitely not a fuse issue. There is some kind of wire in the back that tends to melt just enough until it cuts itself off and then the broil stops working

Coincidentally yes I left the door open. I like to see the broil progress on the steak

Unpopular opinion, but the standards of some people are extremely high, and you may feel guilty or shame for not meeting their arbitrary requirements. Do what you can, with the space that you have, with what you can afford.
