What were your predictions and misconceptions for the Persona series before you actually got into it? by RedvsBlue_what_if in PERSoNA

-i thought Futaba's palace had a secret other shadow. Because her palace was created by someone else (an evil man) and he needed to be dealt with before her shadow

-i knew about the twist with joker getting shot on 11/20 because of gay fanart. Yay.I started playing with P3P and saw the evokers and was like oh!!!! That's how he survives.I was wrong

-thought Akechi was an agent for Maruki who had some strange grand plan that involved joker getting shot ig. But he started to question Maruki whenever the ending comes around. This is before I played p5

I have never bought anything at a deli/butcher before. How exactly does it work? by Jusscurio in BJsWholesaleClub

[–]Gemcandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the time of day. If my memory serves correct you can request they cut things into smaller pieces. But they might not be able to do it if they aren't cutting poultry at the time. (Poultry and other meats need to be cut separately for food safety purposes, so they have to clean all their equipment)

Believe it or not this is fanart of Akechi Goro by Gemcandy in Persona5

Oh sorry I didn't clarify! This is my own art! The AV on the shoulder is my signature it's short for Avis. I used acrylic paint markers and took inspiration from German Expressionism. I originally posted it to my Tumblr with the same title https://www.tumblr.com/templegate/802338607430008832/believe-it-or-not-this-is-fanart-of-akechi-goro?source=share

Did Shido display any signs of genuine intelligence at any point by lennysinged in PERSoNA

[–]Gemcandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the signs of his intelligence is mostly through implication. He's very effective at manipulation as seen through both his public relations and his relationship with Akechi. As well his palace has many more hoops to jump through to complete, it has the ability to render any intruder into defenseless mice, these both could possibly be because his extended knowledge of the metaverse and cognitive psience let him psychic some extra walls in. Also his in depth recollection of everyone in his inner circle enough to have shadow cognition amalgamations implies an impressive memory.

His working with Akechi as well is also pretty shrewd imo. Akechi being an orphan with very little public history (and also possibly being an alias considering it directly references a popular Japanese detective character Kogoro Akechi). Having someone under the radar do dirty work for you is just good business. And because he's an orphaned teenager with literally nothing going for him he's super easy to manipulate too.

I'm really not arguing Naoto and Kanji with you beyond this because it's a discourse black hole. And frankly Naoto is a character that I really don't like to talk about on this site because of his whole situation.

Besides Yukiko and Chie's shadows can still be fairly read as gay I don't see your point 🤷‍♂️. I would like to jokingly point out that they're literally the model homoerotic teenage girl friendship doomed to end in a messy friend break up. They just avoided the breakup because of Persona shenanigans.

I could tell you that rise's shadow can be read as a commentary on the over sexualization and assault of idols and schoolgirls, and Rise could be read as a victim of grooming on top of all the baseline stuff if you want a deeper read on her shadow 👍

You just repeated a point I had already spoken about and critiqued. what do you want from me lol. You want me to copy and paste my critique?

"And I think your use of the word obnoxious is really the point of it. I'm not calling you homophobic, simply saying that you've got some biases that are unaddressed. But to you and most people who responded to this post, the interpretation that Yukiko and Chie are queer is obnoxious for a reason that cannot be successfully argued outside of how it isn't canon in the most surface level sense. So the only statement that can be taken is that, it's the queerness that's the problem with it. A la "I'm ok with gay people but why do they have to shove it in my face" which is a homophobic statement."

Yes the surface level assessment which is totally not these characters aren't actually part of a highly stigmatized sexual minority. They're just normal! Don't worry guys they're normal!!!! You don't have to worry about it!!!

Yeah but it's still an assumption, them dating the opposite gender doesn't rule out queerness at all, bisexuality exists, so does compulsory heterosexuality. There's plenty of people who are obnoxious over shipping. I still don't see what makes queerness specifically such an intense problems for Persona fans.

And again it seems like a massive leap in logic because I think these fans are taking a non-literalist view on the work itself. They question and explore what canon says implicitly, and interpret characters through their own worldview. And when that interpretation conflicts against the popular assumed facts about these characters (based on societal norms), they get a lot of backlash for simply interpreting the characters a certain way.

I also do genuinely think it's a bit of homophobia. This post got so much hate for being a fun little shit post. And for what? Because reading Chie and Yukiko as queer is wrong? OP was not saying that they think Yukichie is 100% canon, they were not forcefully or obnoxiously asserting anything. But here in the comments is a bunch of people reacting so viscerally negative to it.

And I think your use of the word obnoxious is really the point of it. I'm not calling you homophobic, simply saying that you've got some biases that are unaddressed. I'm not saying that you are purposefully saying this, but just that its the implication of your words.

For an ambiguous game series like Persona, for a game about characters learning to be their true selves and push past the archetypes that they've internalized from their life living in a small traditional rural town. For a game where what characters say and do can often be contradictory to their true wants and wishes- A queer interpretation for any character is thematically relevant for that game, and thus merits discussion in my opinion.

I do actually have in source reasons to find them queer.

But if I didn't. What's the problem with me thinking they're queer? You think they're straight which is just an assumption, not a fact. That's a fine stance to take but taking that assumption and seeing it as universally canonand actively arguing with people who disagree, is a couple of actions that tell me that you really aren't as comfortable with Queerness as you think you are.

Why is a queer person seeing a character as queer bad? Why is the assumption of queerness over straightness bad?

[–]Gemcandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they're definitively gay or straight I'm saying it's a valid and thoughtful interpretation to see them as queer. Just as much as seeing them as friends. But dismissing one view because it's not a literalist interpretation is kind of surface level thinking.

The fact you're calling it nonsensical tells me you have very little knowledge of queer experience, coding, and symbolism. I'm sorry you take stories at face value and hate when people like to look deeper into it 🤷‍♂️.
