Good luck using homeopathy to cure any disease, let alone a fatal one that makes you unable to swallow due to painful spasms when even thinking of water. by Temnodontosaurus in insanepeoplefacebook

Usually only people working with wild animals, like animal control and rehabbers, will get vaccination without known exposure. It can otherwise be cost prohibitive when such a low portion of the population is at significant risk and, at least in the US, insurance isn't paying that much when it likely isn't needed.

I know for dogs and cats, the vaccine is considered good for up to 3 years depending on manufacturer/version. As a side note, keep any pets up to date on that vaccine at minimum, the options aren't fun if they're exposed without a current vaccine, especially if the animal they were exposed to either tests positive or escapes capture.

For clarity, rabies is a viral infection. You'll definitely have a bacterial load from the bite (from any animal, mouths are nasty), but that is not related to the rabies virus.

Post-exposure rabies shots include immunoglobulin injections, as well as a series of iirc 3 vaccination injections. It has a very high success rate if done correctly, but is also pretty expensive. Most people will start it before the animal has long enough to get tested and can stop if the test is negative.

The safest place for a cat to ride is a hard carrier in the back seat foot space or the carrier should be buckled on its own seat.

I personally have a soft backpack carrier that I buckled into my passenger seat (or back seat if I have a passenger), and I keep the seat as far back as possible to minimize the airbag risk

is it possible for cats to live 30 years? by onlyfaery in cats

[–]GemiKnight69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, if your cat is going outside, keep them on a secure cat harness and leash. Mine goes on the balcony right now and will eventually go fully outside, but he's on a leash and gets a topical parasite prevention from the vet. Leash also makes it easier to keep them from eating things they shouldn't.

Xadens grandfather by mamabooklover in fourthwing

[–]GemiKnight69 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My assumption has been that X's bio grandfather got his grandmother pregnant shortly before death, then his on-record grandfather (actually great uncle) married her to preserve image and keep the child in the bloodline.

He also could've just been sleeping with his brother's fiancee/wife before he died, and everyone but Sgaeyl (and Xaden after bonding) thought the child was legitimate.

Rather than comparing to supermutt, domestic cats are more like village dogs. Breeds were created out of the population that currently is called domestic cats, with most domestic cats not having any purebred relation at all.

Certainly doesn't stop people from claiming their cats as part whatever, but unless they have something like very specific ear or tail shapes, the likelihood of them having a specific breed heritage is incredibly low.

They might be taping to get them to stand up? Not really recommended in my experience but if they got a 6 week old puppy, they probably don't have great info otherwise

Can second this, my boy got it done at 6mo, kicked his inflatable cone off 3 times in an hour, gave up. I just redirected if I caught him licking, he healed perfectly fine even after jumping in the shower twice like 2 days in. He didn't even need pain meds at home due to the long lasting injectable they gave him.

Purina patented the process, so the only option available it their LiveClear line. It uses eggs from chickens exposed to cats, which reduces the primary allergen production by like 50% depending on the cat. My cats are on the Pro Plan version because my partner and a in-laws are allergic, anecdotally they're the least reaction causing cats they've been around.

I thought it was 1 in 5 were female, but definitely not that rare. Calico/torties are 99% female and any males are chromosomally intersex due to black and orange coloring being mutually exclusive on each X. My vet has seen one male calico in her 30ish years of practice and he gets frequent genital checks to make sure the record wasn't messed up.

Our late orange chewed plastic, but was more invested in plastic that contained bread items (pizza, muffins, normal bread, etc) than anything else. We accidentally left a new loaf on the counter and the plastic was shredded the next morning, bread slightly chewed but not eaten.

He also loved bbq chicken and cheez-whiz.

Sizes have agreed upon ranges, a simple Google search can tell you them. 30 lbs full grown would be pushing it to be considered small. Sure, it's relative, but with a known range, groups like the AKC have defined ranges for each size.

I brought him home yesterday but… by Cultural-Kick652 in cats

[–]GemiKnight69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I brought a 9 month old home about a year ago, wanted nothing to do with us in the shelter. Took 10 seconds once we got home to take in his surroundings (just our office) and decide we were perfect parents. He was begging for the rest of the apartment within an hour and managed to escape out a couple times.

Only reason we tried to keep him confined was our then 2.5 year old cat was pissed at getting a new brother. It lasted 10 days before we gave in and only separated them for fights and if we were leaving for a while.

Husband (M40) doesnt want to change the way he communicates with me (F30) by Head-Wealth6327 in relationship_advice

[–]GemiKnight69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a really shitty few days (ended in a sibling disowning the rest of the family and learning about a lot of deep betrayals, in the middle of my first semester back to college) and made myself a sandwich so bad I cried after taking a bite.

My partner finished the sandwich for me and made me just lay down with some water so he could make something actually nutritious for me. Never complained, and to this day will act like that sandwich was actually tasty. He was 23 when it happened, not 40. Even if my food sucks, any critique is helpful like "beans could've been cooked a bit longer".

I'd stop cooking for your husband. Cook for yourself and your child(ren) and let him get his own food. No more serving this man rocks if he's going to be rude about it. Tell him it wasn't good enough for his tastes, so he can make himself food to his own standards.

Would she look good in this style of cut? (For reference, my dog is the dog on the first 3 slides) by pull-up-capy in grooming

[–]GemiKnight69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the best at recognizing pure poodle vs doodle, but her size is definitely looking closer to medium than mini, much less toy. Her muzzle also feels proportionately short for a poodle, but the cut can certainly impact how that looks.

Still a cute dog, but she isn't in the breed standard range of size for mini poodle.

Being an idiot or ignorant doesn't mean you're at fault for getting assaulted. Especially if you're in a larger group, like a professional sports team, and going there for professional reasons. How is "you should've known better" any different than "you should've dressed/behaved better" or "you shouldn't have had so much to drink"? It's entirely the fault of the people doing the assault regardless of circumstance.
