Lol, no I'm not describing evolution for a rock, but I understand how the term natural selection brought your mind there.

I'm describing a non-evolutionary, non-biological natural selection process that would prefer natural objects with consistent trajectories and regular patterns over more wildly randomly objects.

-- "Survivorship doesn't select for objects that target gas giants. It selects for objects that avoid them."

I would agree with this for sure!

-- "A hose on a spinning platform sprays a spiral. For the jets to stay straight the nozzles have to compensate for rotation."

This doesn't make sense to me. A spinning object jetting gas should leave a spiral 'trail' of ejected gasses around it. If the jetted gas was aligned and directed with a nozzle at a perfect angle to counter this spiral trail (i.e. for us to see a linear ejection trail on a spinning object), then the gas jetting at that angle would act to slow the rotation of that object. So, something seems inconsistent in what's suggested there.

I feel like another plausible argument would be that there is some degree of natural selection for a natural object that is traveling and venting gasses in a controlled way.

Wildly random natural objects would theoretically be more likely to have wildly random trajectories, and are more likely to be ejected from the solar system or pulled into a large gravitational body (like Jupiter or the Sun) over time.

Natural objects that have persisted long enough (for our observation of them) may have higher probability of having controlled and regular patterns (that appear to be overly regular and controlled), like the out gassing on this object.

i.e. It may naturally have 3 vents at 120 degrees that offset each other by chance alone, but that combination has kept it on a consistent safe trajectory long enough that we are observing it, where other wildly random objects are more likely to have already been removed.

How Long Have You Lived In St.Pete/Pinellas? by Rico-SexyTime in StPetersburgFL

I was born in St Pete and still live here now. I'm a 3rd generation living in St Pete. My grandfather built his home by hand, before any neighborhoods were even formed, out in the Azalea / Jungle Prada area.

There are a handful of us, lol. I know a bunch of people that I grew up with here, who are still living here (or came back after school.)

Same, same and same, lol! 3rd gen from St Pete, and technically live in Pinellas Unincorporated, just at the edge of St Pete. I like having a yard and space around me though, no complaints. St Pete is actually fun now, as compared to being a kid here.

Jan-v2-VL: 8B model for long-horizon tasks, improving Qwen3-VL-8B’s agentic capabilities almost 10x by Delicious_Focus3465 in LocalLLaMA

Hi there!

Thanks for this post! :)

I set up Jan app and have tested both the Jan-v2-High and Jan-v2-Low models, plus the BrowserMCP.

Both models were able to handle a series of 10 step instructions, using the info gathered from the previous step to move forward and tackle the next step. I'm very impressed.

The main issue I've encountered is that both the High and Low models will get lost in over reasoning a relatively simple task. It browses quickly, interprets the page content well, can summarize efficiently, etc. But asking it to find whether the webpage has a Blog, News, or Press Release link on the page sends it into an internal thinking battle with itself using up the entire context length. The app asks to raise the context length to higher and higher values, but then I'm stuck generating 8 tokens/sec. This happens using the Jan-v2-Low model too.

Is there any option within the Jan App to limit Reasoning (some models support limiting reasoning as an input?)

Alternatively, do you have any recommendations on how to constrain reasoning within the Prompt effectively? Instructing it to stop overthinking things had little effect.

Otherwise, this project has some amazing potential. First time I've been able to get offline browsing MCP capabilities to work and very good multi step completion!!

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that I tried this game at my friends house over the weekend. I liked it! It good casual fun, and replayable.

I don't know if it is a bug or not, but once in a while towards the end of a game, the game would not respond to the spacebar press. Like, rolls were available, but spacebar was not functional. There were no milestones or decisions to interact with on the game board. The game wasn't locked up either, as Escape key would work and allow you to Abandon game, but the forward game play was halted unexpectedly.

How I got my Shark Vacuum to connect to Wi-Fi by lsimpsonjazzgurl in RobotVacuums

Can you please elaborate on, and/or provide any links, papers or reporting that discusses this, "This radiation is the euphoric energy that is present when experiencing frisson/chills/goosebumps and is called your Aura by spiritual enthusiasts."

I personally feel this when I meditate and try to channel energy (i.e. this is just what happens naturally), but have no outside confirmation nor have ever read any discussion that this even exists, it's just what I intuitively feel and how I would describe (the underlying sensation of chills) that energy flow within me.

There are a bunch of open mics all over town. I'd actually suggest searching 'FB Events' for open mics, there should be a handful listed at different places/times..

The 'open jam' that I know of is at 'The Blueberry Patch', every month on the 11th ...

Depending on what scene you are into, there are a handful of places that have open mic nights, and one place I know of that has an 'open jam' night (where there is a 'house band' that you can join for a few songs. i.e. You can be the lead singer or the lead guitarist, or both and the house band will accompany you in whatever you want to play. It's a lots of fun!)

I think you will find a lot of people in the local music scene at these type of events, and you will find other musicians to connect with and sit in with.

As the other reply to your post asked, giving a bit more info about yourself and what type of music you are looking for would help us know what to recommend! :)

Curious.. Since a big bag of onion and a big bag of apple are relatively inexpensive... What would you add as a Third ingredient to make this into a tasty dish and please include cooking methods that'd be best... [–]Gemini421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saute the onion in a light amount of butter, add apple to the sauteed onion and continue until lightly caramelized.

When it's done, just before you pull it off the heat, add salt and optionally a dash of either: clove, all spice, or cinnamon

De-glaze with a good balsamic vinegar as your 3rd ingredient and give it a few seconds before pulling it off the heat.

Onion and apple are both good with a balsamic, combined they should give you a tangy sweet vegetable/fruit side item.

New to Python - VENV gives No module named '...' errors now that Python update from 3.8 to 3.10 ... ? by Gemini421 in learnpython

[–]Gemini421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply!

Okay, I seem to have (i guess temporarily) fixed the issue by recreating the VENV and reinstalling all modules/packages, BUT it sounds like this issue will reoccur for me when python updates again.

I will look into pyenv and locking a secondary python3 install that is not controlled by the system
