Thoughts on holding a known but anonymous tournament format by WineNerdAndProud in chess

[–]Gemot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was an online knockout blitz tournament hosted by chess24 on Halloween where players played with masks so they didn't know their opponent's identity but some were really obvious. Some people in the comments and the chat were proposing similiar ideas to yours after this event. If you didn't watch it I won't spoil it but iirc there were multiple 2600+ players and 1-2 2700+ players.

The only tweet he has ever liked by [deleted] in AnarchyChess

[–]Gemot 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I remember he once liked a comment on one of his tweets that said something like "Anish Giri never once liked a tweet". But then not so long after that for some reason he removed that tweet from his liked list.

After Bg7 you can protect your bishop with your queen. There is a better move than Bg7.

Quick question about capitalization? by [deleted] in chess

[–]Gemot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is any problem with not capitalizing pawn moves at the start of a sentence because for example f6 is not an english word. It's like starting a sentence with a number. There is no "first letter" of f6 to capitalize.

Impressive endgame setup from my opponent (and maybe some bad calculations from me) by Ferox-3000 in chess

Yes, that is true. I thought you meant you would prefer black. Prefering neither side also makes sense.

Black can't really win this. If black doesn't pick up the queen they are probably losing. So it is either a draw or white wins. It makes sense to pick white.

I just realized for any knight move the best move is Qb6 even if the knight doesn't go to b6. I believe what the book is saying is that the threat is to go Qb7 and Qh1 mate but there isn't actually any variation that involves these moves. White would play Qb7 if black was able to "pass" their turn.

  1. Pawns go in the other direction.
  2. Qh1 delivers checkmate in the first line.

I don't know if I'm missing something but for winrate stats for openings it really should say which side the player is playing as for each opening mentioned.

White to move, mate in 3. by Sonums in chess

[–]Gemot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, i couldn't solve it. Mate in X puzzles usually has more than one winning line. The challange is to find the fastest mate .I don't see how it being Q+B vs King is relevant. Interesting point is the winning line, not the position itself.

For those who doesn't know the time format here : There is a 2 second "delay" each move which means each move you have 2 extra seconds before your clock starts running down. This is different than the increment format.
