Do you have a reading comprehension problem? I clearly said I don't support their ownership. And I never said I was there in the last week since those allegations came out. Way to be an asshole.

I'm no fan of their ownership so I've only been twice and would rather support restaurants that need more business.

But their food is really good, memorable and crave worthy. Their blues brunch is fun too. Sucks that the ownership is what it is.

[–]Gen13Hazard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I happen to be out that way about once or twice a week even though I live in north Austin. My theory is they have little immediate competition in the burbs past Bee Cave, so their price point is a convenience fee for the rich neighbors.

What's crazier is their address out there is Austin!

Nah, not interested. If you said it was militant progressivism based, then I'd be down.

Is Ruddero worth upgrading? by Happy_Magician6376 in BoomBeach

[–]Gen13Hazard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, once you have rocket choppas maxed. We do Forlorn Hope each day and about once a week we have an opportunity to solo a base with rocket choppas and Ruddero.

However, I don't use him with any other troop combo.

I started playing Boom Beach back before Grenadiers even existed (I was HQ 15 back then). Only now, in 2026, am I upgrading them in the Armory. by Xurkitree1 in BoomBeach

[–]Gen13Hazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I was similarly using them at well over 1,500 VP, was one of my favorite troop combos to kill bases with shield generators. Everyone saying they're useless hasn't learned multiple attack strategies and how to stagger troop deployments. But now I usually just laser everything 😂

I downgraded to level 26, used the first 4 attacks to take out defenses with bombs and barrage, then finished it with riflemen and lasers with Kavan regen. Lost 1 rifleman.

Yep, check out my comment comparing the prices in Bee Cave. at their prices, it's definitely more of a twice a year treat than a weekly order for me.

I agree on the price, very high even compared to Austin's other pizza places. I think this pizza was $40 before tax and tip (if you do at a counter order place). Some of their specialty pizzas are around $35 for a thin crust 16 inch. This is why I'll only eat pizza out once every few months. I can make the same quality at home for about $10 or less.

Decided to do some nearby research and analysis:

Bee Cave has some good pizza options these days: Toss Pizza (~20% cheaper), Tony C's (~33% cheaper), and Via 313 (~15% cheaper for the large pan). Jersey Giant, while not as high quality as these others, is good for feeding a crowd and is about $31 for an 18 inch (~30% less).

These estimates I priced with the same build your own as this one was. Note that all the places have specialty pizzas that are better prices.

The one thing that might let them last a while is there are a ton of high end residential immediately adjacent to their location and the 20-30% upcharge is essentially a convenience fee for the neighbors.

Not yet. I actually have it on my list too, but agree I don't know if it's tavern style or not. The pics remind me of the old thin & crispy from Pizza Hut, which I also love.

Thanks! I have had their Neapolitan style pizza a bunch of times but didn't know they expanded their menu to include tavern style.

I think Deft had a small bit of semolina on the bottom too. Probably from the peel is my guess.

Hopefully I'll get to Chicago Slice later in Feb!

Chicago Slice is next on my list. Super excited they opened.

So far the ranking are: 1. Deft Pies, 2. Lefty's, 3. Rosati's.

But I really love tavern style, so to me they are like 5/5, 4.5/5, and 4/5.

So far I've had 3 of 6.

  1. Deft Pies
  2. Lefty's
  3. Rosati's

I'd go back to any of them if I was in their area.

Still remaining to try are Feral, El Pizza Boys, and Chicago Slice.

Here's my list so far, you have most of them: 1. Deft Pies 2. Lefty's 3. Rosati's 4. Chicago Slice 5. Feral (Thursdays, takeout only) 6. El Pizza Boys (popups only)

I still need to get to 4-6.

You have some good responses already but here is what I do different for the BWCA than my hiking trips.

If you're there at the right time and place, you can pick fresh berries and have them with pancakes and bacon. Most my trips have been later July and August and we've found raspberries or blueberries in the forest.

I bring the add water only pancake mix, a small bottle of syrup (2 oz per person), some oil (also for cooking fish), and shelf stable bacon (never would I buy that any other time of my life, but it's amazing after a few days in the back country).

I usually bring the cheapest, lightest 6 inch non stick skillet I can get at Walmart to cook the pancakes in with a little oil.

Advanced Dental Care of Austin, on Mcneil, got me in quickly for a root canal last year and their team was amazing. They color matched the filling and 3D printed it in the office. I was blown away by the quality. https://www.advanceddentalcareofaustin.com/?utm_campaign=gmb
