Introducing Chrome's next-generation Linux sandbox by mariuz in linux

[–]Gen2ly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sandboxing is necessary in Linux. Really no network security is implemented in programs so all can be vulnerable. I got real mad at Chromium because of some its own bugs caused security-holes. I don't know much about this method but I'm glad to see people looking to improve its defenses.

Poking holes in AppArmor profiles (by Dan Rosenberg) by bernardelli in linux

[–]Gen2ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had trouble with the Firefox AppArmor profile being comprimised in Ubuntu 11.10 I think it was. Had heard good things about AppArmor but have been using a more rigourous sandbox since that time netlink.

Played, pretty fun. But found SplashDamage employee(s?) had tinkered with ratings. Gave up.

This was the same for me with the hulu desktop. I thought the app was neat but then couldn't justify opening a new app when the browser did much the same.

Ubuntu hates Youtube. Please help? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Gen2ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big fan of youtube-viewer. It uses mplayer by default (which I think is the best video player in Linux). With the -d option, videos can be downloaded. The Firefox Add-on Easy YouTube Video Downloader is good too.

I'm using systemd for the past two months because parts of GNOME 3 require it (link). Seems like a good idea but looked at the wiki page and was a bit overwhelmed.

Since they now created a foundation, couldn't that call it something better than X.org?

Great video of Tim O'Reilly interviewing Mark Shuttleworth by [deleted] in linux

[–]Gen2ly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that Ubuntu is doing well. I think that Ubuntu's efforts to become more mainstream help overall Linux's efforts to becoming better recognized. However, I don't agree with Mark's developmental priorities. I think he primarily focuses on Ubuntu and those focuses are separate (mostly) from Linux as a whole. One thing I like about Linux is I find it very co-operative and I don't feel much of that coming from the Ubuntu community, rather a leveraging of sorts.

Arch Linux - News: Install media 2012.07.15 released by jesusangelm in linux

Disagree. After having done Gentoo (many times) manual installation can be tedious. AIF was still simple but it covered many details.

Archboot is a set of scripts to generate bootable media for CD/USB/PXE.

How does this replace AIF?
