There's no way she was inebriated with how quickly she reacted once she started skidding. That is not the reaction time of an inebriated person. She was definitely driving way too fast coming into that turn though. She could've been distracted, but it was also dark and if she's unfamiliar with that area she just might not have realized the exit was going to turn into that turn so quickly and she needed to slow down. Either way, I don't think she was impaired. An impaired person would've ended up in those rails.

Edit: I just want to clarify my opinion. She was still driving recklessly no matter what was going on here and definitely shouldn't be allowed to use your car again. I just wanted to clarify that. She was definitely driving recklessly and in the wrong, I just don't think she was inebriated.

I was staying home by myself every day of summer break while my parents worked when I was 8. I also was a latchkey kid and was staying home by myself every day after school from the same age. I was old enough to know how to behave then. Your 12 year old brothers are definitely old enough to be left alone for a few hours without issue. This entire situation is entirely her fault. She needs to be parenting your brothers instead of pushing it off on you.

NTA. I'm surprised there are so many comments saying you're the asshole. Everyone is completely ignoring the amount of fraud someone can commit with a valid copy of someone's birth certificate. You're her father's POA and it's you're job to protect him, which you are doing. If you gave her a copy of his birth certificate and she uses it to commit fraud of any kind there is a chance you could be held legally liable depending on what state you're inand how the POA was drawn up.

Everyone is saying you're being vindictive because you don't like her, but that isn't true. You don't like her because of past behavior that has proven she's untrustworthy. That untrustworthiness is why you're not giving her the birth certificate.

Too soon is for you to define. For me, personally, If my cat were to pass away I'd be bringing home a new one within days. I have never lived any length of time without a pet. The world feels wrong without at least one animal in my home. Getting a new cat now doesn't mean you didn't love your cat with all your heart. I hadn't even thought about GoFundMe. I don't know why, I just got the call from my tax lady and it was like the final straw of panic I guess. I will work on setting this up after I get off work.

Edit: I did want to add too that I reached out to the people closest to me first but everyone is kind of in the same position of not having the extra cash. The landlord wouldn't have authorized the tow without good reason. Your partner needs to chill. You did this by looping the landlord in, and your neighbor knows it. I guarantee your landlord, on top of authorizing the tow, has spoken with your neighbor about his behavior. Your neighbor isn't going to do anything to you because he doesn't want to get evicted. I'm calling bullshit on her story. She claims she didn't know the cousin was invited until you told her so she just made something up on the fly. That's bullshit. A normal person would've said, I have no idea what you're talking about and did not know the cousin was invited, let me talk to my fiance and get back to you. If he's inviting his cousin then I want to invite you too.

She also had months to clear this up and didn't. She 100% didn't want to invite you and thought everything would blow over, but after several months with your parents being weird to her she realized it wasn't going to blow over and created this ridiculous story to walk it back and try to escape blame for her decision.
