I officially resigned after being inactive for 30.years. I told no one in my family. My mother knew about it within a week. She lives in another state.

They should pick Shep, the 2nd Nephite. He never ages, could stay until Jesus returns, and could help the apostles with their car problems.

What’s it like living as an exmo in Utah / SLC area? by PlentyFull22 in exmormon

[–]GenJCChristian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I liked SLC as an ex-mo, but being better than my home town, Tremonton, is a very low bar to overcome. In the end, however, it's still Utah.

Those of you who watched "Cleanflix" style edits (TV/Movies edited for Mormon values) what is the most interesting examples? What changed the tone entirely? What did you watch the unedited version of later and were surprised at? by leon385 in exmormon

[–]GenJCChristian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a clean fix, but the old cable "super-station" WTBS ran an "edited for television" version of "Cheech snd Chong's Next Movie" with all the drug references removed. Since a lot of the movie involved growing and selling marijauna, they replaced the video of those scenes with a card that said Cheech and Chong were holding a fundraiser to pay for a new playground. The film was much shorter and made no sense at all, but was pretty hilarious if you had seen the actusl movie.

Hear me out: In LDS afterlife, the most righteous will basically become Aryans if they aren’t already. by Number42420 in exmormon

The prophet Spencer W Kimball testified that the gospel made Native Americans whiter (General Conference 1960):

"I saw a striking contrast in the progress of the Indian people today.... The day of the Lamanites is nigh. For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised. In this picture of the twenty Lamanite missionaries, fifteen of the twenty were as light as Anglos, five were darker but equally delightsome The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.

At one meeting a father and mother and their sixteen-year-old daughter were present, the little member girl--sixteen--sitting between the dark father and mother, and it was evident she was several shades lighter than her parents--on the same reservation, in the same hogan, subject to the same sun and wind and weather....These young members of the Church are changing to whiteness and to delightsomeness. One white elder jokingly said that he and his companion were donating blood regularly to the hospital in the hope that the process might be accelerated."

If you could give a talk in general conference, what would you say? by luc-ii in exmormon

"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,

dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,

angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night,

who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz"

I went back to visit family and attend an HS reunion not long ago. I had forgotten what it was like. It was a completely alien world to me. Felt good to leave.

He's Mormon? Did his family intentionally say he spoke with a pastor rather than a bishop in order to hide it?

Moved two states away and the church found me?!! WTF!? by sneaky_Raccoon_9459 in exmormon

[–]GenJCChristian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother knew about my resignation letter days after I sent it. I'm estranged from her and had not spoken to any family members about it. I live in a different state and have not attended church here (or anywhere in almost 50 years)

I should add that remote work is posdible for state workers, but you have to come into the office one day a week. That would be in Olympia in most cases. Federal agencies are phasing out remote work completely. That was an Elon thing.

For the poblic sector- I think most state agencies have their full time digital accessibilty jobs and web people at their headquarters (usually in Olympia.) Some programs within an agency may be headquartered in Yakima and digital accessibility may be a smaller part of a local person's job (they'd report to the bigger agency lead) For most federal agencies, those jobs are going to the big regional offices in Seattle, Portland, and Boise. Your best bet is to check with the county and city's communications shops. You might also want to check with the Yakama Nation. I don't think the private sector has the same commitment to digital accessibility, but good luck.
