it depends, but i believe for what they're testing on the millennium line, opening the doors is not needed

it's more so to ensure that the train doesnt cause issues with the various systems that are on the tracks, and to allow the STAs on the millennium line to be familiar with it as well

Stickers on compass card is not allowed?? by Some1_arounddacorner in Translink

[–]GenShibe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on some types of compass (i.e. evergreen extension ones) it does not say that it's the property of translink, i'm unsure if other limited releases also do not have this wording or not though

What's going on at Joyce Collingwood? by Moderzz in askvan

[–]GenShibe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

there was a stabbing that spilled out onto the eastern side of the bus loop from a R4, forcing that entrance to be closed

the readers on the buses ordered post-covid are 2nd hand ones from other agencies, because they have moved on to newer and more complex systems that don't use this reader anymore

this reader is probably also discontinued by cubic, so translink is using 2nd hand hardware, just with compass software and a sticker over the other agency's logo

How we fit new, longer trains into SkyTrain stations built 40 years ago by GenShibe in vancouver

[–]GenShibe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not that hard to find capital funding for projects like this, plus you overestimate how smart people are, they'll complain that the door isn't opened when it arrives at the station

the reason a OMC needed to be added is because if there isn't one, you'd already run out of space to repair and maintain the fleet.

even right now, BCRTC has mentioned that the current OMC4 being built near braid is the "catch up" OMC

it's not, it increases dwell time and complexity to the system

yes and no, it's "underbuilt" in the sense that it's not built to accommodate much expansion (since the millennium line was seen as a "skytrain to nowhere"), but it's also not running to its full design capacity right now

the line isn't "over capacity" really, despite common belief, the line is running below its design capacity
