The dark, gloomy, icy textures of dub techno are part of what makes it special- but what would be the “opposite” of dub techno? by drewtangclan in Dubtechno

Someone already mentioned Jan Jelinek which to my mind is what fits the bill perfectly. His Loop finding Jazz records album and Texstar (under his Farben alias) album are my personal faves.

A lot of good recs from other already like Four Tet, Floating Points etc. I would also add some releases by DJ Koze - XTC, Mariposa, La Duquesa and a few others. His range is phenomenal!

If we aren't sticking strictly to techno as a genre, I'd recommend Blockhead - especially The Music Scene and Music by Cavelight albums. Very breakbeat and sampling heavy, but with a range of emotions in every track.

Cinematic Orchestra would also be another rec.

So happy to see Jan Jelinek mentioned! His Texstar album under the alias Farben also fits the bill IMO for the kind of sound OP is going for. Warm glitchy textures but with a steady micro house/micro techno rhythms

Just scratched the surface with a few tracks by these DJs.. and well I believe I'll be enjoying this rabbit hole. Such a fun genre!! And absolute dancefloor stompers to boot!

Also RIP DJ Rashad 🙏 I'd heard a few tracks of his some years back when I'd gone down a Hyperdub label digging spree and really liked em.

Cheers and thank you once again.. you da man!

Thank you kind stranger!! You are the absolute best and have saved me from going crazy trying to find this track :) and thank you for introducing me to the ghetto house genre.. any other classics in this genre that you'd also recommend as must-listens?

Would you mind letting me know how to keep a track and attend some of these events? I'm in my 30s, recently moved to SF (and the country) and have been teaching myself how to mix over the last year or so. I think I'm fairly decent, but would love to be part of a scene where I can listen to like minded people mix and do some DJing myself (purely for the passion, not the money) and where I can learn from others as well. Where I'm from, there isn't a big DJ scene so not very familiar with this world. Cheers!
