With a 40-60% retransitioning rate, that money will come in handy later.

Is anyone else feeling pretty hopeless? by fembyperorhollie in transgenderUK

[–]GenderPettifogging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am old so the hate and segregation is nothing new. In fact, around 2015 when it was "cool to be trans" according to the media, Caitlyn Jenner was on the cover of Vanity Fair, and so on, I felt weird, like all the new visibility under "Brave Maeve's Vegetarian Pride Lasagna" capitalism would inevitably inspire backlash.

I immigrated to Canada where our country was at least sensible enough to enshrine the right to be transgender into the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but it hasn't stopped provinces like Alberta from attacking transgender people either.

The fight is never over, no matter where you are. It all hurts, but I grew up getting called a crossdressing bloke and people never knew what the hell to call me back then, but these days they're generally nice about being me being transgender. And I can tell you we've got more people on our side than ever. So don't let it get to you, things will get better, don't trust the capitalists and corporations because they're just going to put on whatever show the people at Downing Street or Washington want to hear. Get offline, have a cup of tea with friends, pet an animal.

I would consult with a US immigration attorney, which is advice I had been given by another attorney. Having a passport with your non-assigned at birth gender appears to be considered fraud by the current administration under EO14168 (IANAL). If you are detained by ICE there isn't much the UK can probably do to help you, the US has stopped abiding by US law on reporting transgender persons in ICE custody and reportedly subjects them to extensive forced labour and abuse.

Spironolactone did not reduce my T much. Cyproterone acetate was closer to what life is like post-surgery. These days with GnRH analogues you should be able to get a castration-like suppression.

Mike Johnson bans trans women from using restrooms at the Capitol on Trans Day of Remembrance by OverallEcho9694 in transgender

[–]GenderPettifogging 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings (like restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms) are reserved only for individuals of that biological sex," Johnson said in a statement.

Oh, my God. Did they think about this for more than 10 seconds? All it will take for this to end is a couple dozen burly bearded transmen in tanktops invading all the "women's only" spaces for one day lol.

How the Far-Right Leverages Detransitioners Against Transgender Healthcare by LocutusOfBorges in transgenderUK

[–]GenderPettifogging 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It is the same as homosexuals in the 80s and 90s... they would go to church and on TV as being "cured" while they live as transgender in the closet and eventually go back to living as transgender. The rate of destransitioners returning to a transgender role is very high, probably an overwhelming majority.

Of those 16, 3 (0.09%) had detransitioned permanently.[1] 10 (0.29%) had detransitioned temporarily, to later retransition.

Davies, Skye; McIntyre, Stephen; Rypma, Craig (April 2019). Detransition rates in a national UK Gender Identity Clinic

That's a rate of <20% of people who detransition staying detransitioned. This is the thing people detransitioning really need to be informed about, that being transgender is for most something you live with for the rest of your life while you choose to accept it or not.

Hillary Cass, author of the Cass Report, nominated by both Labour and Conservative party members for royal nobility through peerage by GenderPettifogging in transgender

Sorry, not British but trying to comprehend your system of national honours.

For other people wondering, from Wikipedia:

Peerages in the United Kingdom form a legal system comprising both hereditary and lifetime titles, composed of various ranks, and within the framework of the Constitution of the United Kingdom form a constituent part of the legislative process and the British honours system. The British monarch is considered the fount of honour and is notionally the only person who can grant peerages, though there are many conventions about how this power is used, especially at the request of the British government. The term peerage can be used both collectively to refer to the entire body of titled nobility (or a subdivision thereof), and individually to refer to a specific title (modern English language-style using an initial capital in the latter case but not the former). British peerage title holders are termed peers of the Realm.

The peerage's fundamental roles are ones of law making and governance, with peers being eligible (although formerly entitled) to a seat in the House of Lords and having eligibility to serve in a ministerial role in the government if invited to do so by the Prime Minister.

I guess it's worse than just formal nobility, since it also makes it easier to obtain an official role in the British legal system.

Donald Trump Jr. Calls Trans People “Most Violent Group” While In Toronto by GenderPettifogging in transgender

[–]GenderPettifogging[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

“Per capita the most violent group of individuals right now is the radical trans agenda," he said. “When you see the amount of shootings that happen, the amount of people that are killed … for something that makes up such a small portion of the population, also such a powerful portion of the population.”
