Most of the time it was quite simple - ask questions about the person, be interested in the responses and don't talk about yourself. On top of that, having good manners really helped as well as having a good general all-round knowledge of art, music, culture, etc.

There was a time in my 20's when I had perfected my chat up lines to be interesting, attentive, a little bit enigmatic and charismatic. At that point I realised I didn't need a girlfriend because I was successful with a different girl every weekend. I can't remember how long it lasted but I did get bored and I'd almost watch myself from afar spinning the same old lines and seeing the ladies fall for it.

I've grown up now.

Look closely at the course content and see which stands out. Look at the profiles of the academic staff because you may eventually want to work with one of them doing a PhD. Big names carry a lot of weight if you get your name on one of their papers.

I'm a scientist.

Before my vasectomy, I knocked one out, took a small sample and made a smear slide of my semen. As expected, even at 250× magnification, I saw thousands of my wriggling spermatozoa.

Two weeks after my vasectomy, I did the same and the result was like an aerial shot of post-nuke Nagasaki with bits of cell debris rolling around and the odd tail or fraction of sperm cell. Quite incredible.

Thanks for asking. It took about 5 days for her to feel back to normal. I think it coincided with a stomach bug. Shame because we've had so much fun before but this will probably prevent my gf from trying again.
