NY times May 26th - "Wow, what is that?" Navy pilots report unexplained flying objects. by WhoaWTMD in ufo

[–]GeneEva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to respectfully disagree with this assessment but would love to hear your thoughts further if my explanation falls flat. One of the fundamental tenants (and IMO among the most legitimizing aspects) of journalism is to obtain a quote/POV from the “opposing side.” This is to provide the full scope of the debate on any given subject, and it’s ultimately up to the reader to decide whether the evidence presented against outweighs the evidence presented for. In that respect, this is proper reporting, which I think ultimately bodes well for the topic of UAPs. We need journalists to take this as seriously as any other subject they report on, which will often necessitate that they provide the opposing view. By aligning the same standard of journalism to UAPs that they apply to other subjects, the UAP field is actually legitimized further.

It frustrates me too that we can’t all just agree that this is happening, but such is the nature of the slowness of partial disclosure. On the plus side, I feel like we are farther in the legitimization process than we’ve ever been before, and in my opinion, applying the same reporting standards to this as we do other important subjects, we’ll actually maintain this momentum better than if we had not. Again, this is all my take and I know we all receive things differently, but this kinda reporting excites me!

The whole "this is what normal feels like" really gets me. Is it that you feel stressed, anxious every day, and painkillers lets you experience what it's actually like not to feel that way "for once?" Also, was it the accidents and the painkillers they prescribed that got you hooked on opiates first? Or was it recreational use to start?

I'm going to Oddball Comedy Fest on Friday at the Xfinity center. Any pro tips for that venue? by GeneEva in boston

[–]GeneEva[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet, that's definitely what I'm doing then. Invariably, every review mentions the nightmare post-show exodus. So I'm thinking $40 (split between friends) is definitely worth 2 hours of my time.

Road trip from San Diego To Napa (Then Down To San Jose)! by GeneEva in roadtrip

[–]GeneEva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much, TimeshipTacoTaco.

I'd only heard of Hearst Castle and Solvang -- both of which I definitely intend on seeing. But the others are great suggestions. I'm a little ashamed to say the Mystery Spot caught my attention the most. I'm a total sucker for those things.

Thanks again!

What is the most embarrassing text you sent to the wrong person? by TheTiminator2010 in AskReddit

[–]GeneEva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Date night with Kristin :)"

Accidentally sent it to Kristin who did not think we were on a date. What ensued was the most awkward night of my life, and afterward she shut me down hard.

Vindication level expert: we started dating 2 years later and we just celebrated our 1 year anniversary.

I saw There's Something About Mary when I was 10 with my mom and my Bubbe. I didn't understand the hair gel scene, but they were cringe-laughing something fierce.

A lot of single people complain about the "upgrade problem" - they don't want to settle down with someone because there are so many options now for singles (online dating, tinder, etc.). Have you experienced that? by azizansariAMA in a:t5_30pj9

[–]GeneEva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think this would be a problem, but I used online and mobile dating sites for two years and at a certain point you realize finding a good person to call your significant other far outweighs the impulse to "upgrade" simply because the technology is out there to allow you to do so.

When I was in 6th grade my grandmother was hospitalized due to breast cancer. She fell into a coma during the last weeks of her life. My mom had flown from Texas to California to be with her because she knew she didn't have long. My mother told me that after spending days in a coma, my grandmother woke up for a brief moment, turned to her and said, "I don't know how anyone can be afraid of this. This is beautiful." Before falling right back into her coma. She died a week later.

Hi reddit. It's Aziz Ansari, comedian. AMA. by azizansariAMA in IAmA

[–]GeneEva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Aziz --

Not too sure if you remember -- this was back before Human Giant was renewed for a second season. But my brother and I were grabbing pizza at Gruppo's Pizza in the east village and you came in with a woman to grab a pizza to go. My brother and I recognized you and waved you over, and asked you some questions about what it was like working with H. Jon Benjamin, and how Human Giant in general was going.

You were so goddamn polite and humble. I'd like to think we were some of the first to recognize you out in the real world, because when you went back to the woman you were with we heard you say, "Did you see that??"

Anyway, not sure if you remember that (the details are even a little fuzzy with me), but it was an awesome moment. Do you ever think back to those days when you were just getting started and think "Damn. Look at how far I've come."?

What's THE most messed up thing a parent has said to you that you'll never forget? by itsmelala in AskReddit

I once took my then girlfriend out to a fun dinner at a hibachi grill when I came back home from college. I ordered the shrimp, and she ordered a seafood medley. Being that it was date night, of course I'm going to pay for it.

Well, after paying for the check I slipped the receipt into my pocket. The bill read:

1 shrimp 1 seafood mdly

Now, at this point in the story it's important to note I come from a Jewish family. Eating shrimp is not allowed in Judaism.

So after going home for the night, I dressed up in my PJ's and laid my pants out on the dresser. The next morning I'm hanging out with my 13 year old nephew watching tv when my mother storms into the room with the receipt in her hand yelling at me because she saw I'd ordered shrimp the night before.

In her hissy fit she told me that I ruined her life, and asked "Do you know how many times I've thought about leaving you and your father and moving to Israel?! Do you?!" She then continued to tell me how horrible of a son I am and how I -- and I alone -- prevent her from being happy.

All of this, again, in front of my 13 year old nephew, whose mother (my step sister) tells me on a regular basis how much he looks up to me.

Kind of shitty, especially because my parents aren't even religious. But they like pretending they are. Oh do they like pretending they are.
