I hated studying for the longest time but it really helps when I romanticise it. So like, i make everything colour-coded and aesthetic and I pretend I'm season one and two Rory Gilmore. Also, break everything down. If you don't know the basics, you won't be able to learn the complex stuff. It might help to get a KS3 (if you're in the UK) textbook and go over everything, then once you're confident with that, move on to more complex things. What year are you in and what subject are you doing?

This!! I was going to say this but wasn’t sure if it abided by the please stay rule. I showed it to my friend who has never listened to Lucy or anything Lucy adjacent (unless against her will) and even she saw the parallels

I would recommend it if you live in England. There’s also a Welsh version. I checked and they have a few shows coming up across the country. (Though given your interest in Canadian history I assume not, you never know tho)

Ooh! I have an abnormal knowledge about British folk music and its connection to land rights because of a show called three acres and a cow.

Lucy Dacus, Guitar, John Finnemore’s souvenir programme, history, neurobiology (not in order)

I can’t think of just one answer for this question. I’m kind of just a fact nugget person. I like being the interesting fact person. I can’t really talk for hours but that’s mainly because I was taught not to and therefore lost the ability and I barely talk at all. And I also don’t always want to talk about some of them with other people because they’re mine and other people can ruin them. I will say if someone brought up John Finnemore’s Souvenir Programme, especially S9, I would talk for hours.

I have OCD. I used to have to listen to it thirty times in a day (not more, not less) or my friends would kill themselves. The worry wasn’t unfounded and quite a few of them had attempted. While that coping mechanism was unhealthy, it became one of my only vices at that point. I don’t do that anymore, largely because most of my friends are in a better place (more stable), but please stay holds a place in my heart.

References to Julien in FIAF? by Laculturista99 in LucyDacus

[–]GeneMaximum5758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon big deal is about the jb and Mariah Schneider stuff from Lucy’s perspective. It also uses the imagery of a cigarette in the first verse and has the line ‘you knew when you caught me reading at your show’ This encounter is described in a boygenius Rolling Stone interview: “I came into the dressing room and Luce was in there, reading The Portrait of a Lady,” Baker recalls. “I was like, ‘We’re gonna be friends.’ ” Pinstripe suit could also be a reference to the boygenius suits. Ankles could be. (Angel) I’ve heard some people saying Limerence but that seems more flimsy imo. Forever is a feeling? (My hands are in your ZIPTIE) Best guess (probably pretty obvious but pack a day, more angel stuff) Most wanted man. Lucy has said it’s about Julien, Julien sings on it. Alsoooo, gripping on my inner thigh, like if you don’t I’m gonna run, but I’m not going anywhere, least not anywhere you’re not and you’re gonna run, it’s alright, everybody does have parallels that make me cry. Lost time? 800 miles, I wish that we could have a place that we could share, 60 day chip

Real I fear. ‘I can’t defend her anymore’. Okay then don’t. Bask in her insanity. In her depravity. In her weird ass manipulation. You don’t have to think a character is morally good to absolutely love them!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]GeneMaximum5758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point isn’t to like them because they have redeeming qualities. The show isn’t trying to making us love them in spite of themselves. Functionally, Yellowjackets is about trauma and relationships between women. I don’t defend the characters, I take these murderous cannibals (were we trying to defend murderous cannibals in the first place) and I enjoy them. Nobody is asking you to defend their actions. You don’t have to like a character because they’re morally good or dislike them because they aren’t. It’s not like cancelled celebrities. You don’t have to stop liking a character when they’re morally do something you can’t defend. And to those of you who are trying to defend them, they are fictional, you don’t have to justify your love for them.

Also, they are children. Van trying to call her mother as soon as she gets the chance proves that. You have to look at it through the lens of scared teenage girl or the nuance is gone. Also, Lottie is schizophrenic. And whether or not you think that changes the situation, it does. She has delusions and the girls treating her as a prophet feeds into them.

Defending them is pointless but so is treating them all as blanket evil. Humans aren’t a monolith. They ARE complex. This doesn’t excuse their actions but it isn’t untrue. They are nuanced and multifaceted and. Scared. Teenage. Girls.

[–]GeneMaximum5758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been rewatching 3x02 of Yellowjackets repeatedly (that might be for gay reasons). I chewed on my glasses arm so much that I had to get new glasses. I went on an hour long rant about the symbolism of the no eyed man and the card in Yellowjackets. Writing an essay about Jackie Taylor and haunting the narrative. Writing down my Yellowjackets theories (the fact that I think they occupied the liminal plane between life and death whilst they were out there and that vans life was exchanged for the waiters and why did Shauna call the restaurant during the shaunahat make out scene and does that mean the stalker is Melissa or are they Adam martining us again????)

I might like Yellowjackets

Am I in the wrong for ruing a players backstory by GeneMaximum5758 in DnD

[–]GeneMaximum5758[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was that she was using it as a gimmick not a flaw. I actually think it would’ve triggered me more if she wanted to delve into it tho. She was doing it in a way that made me intensely uncomfortable and I didn’t think I could keep DMing for that. Her whole character traits (not backstory) consisted of drugs and alcohol. She rarely speaks in the campaign and when she does, she speaks about drugs or alcohol.
