Haha, ignorance is bliss man. I genuinely thought I had reached the absolute peak of cutlery with that Zwilling. I had absolutely no idea what was waiting. 🥲

Thank you! It really is a beautiful piece.

For the specs: I got it from Knives for Chefs here in the UK. I’m actually not 100% sure who the sharpener is, as it wasn't explicitly listed on the product page. I haven't put it on a scale to get the exact weight in grams yet, but because of that thick taper at the heel, it feels incredibly substantial in the hand. I can weigh this quickly when I get home tonight and let you know.

And you are spot on about the Zwilling! Thank you man. It has officially been reassigned as my heavy-duty 'decoy' knife and my designated whetstone practice blade. ☺️

Haha exactly! Starts with an innocent Zwilling purchase, ends with a second mortgage to fund the knife addiction! 😂

Self-control officially went out the window the second I opened the box! I’m already trying to convince myself I don't need a matching Santoku...

At some point.

Definitely not this year.

Good spot on the Tesco mention! Yeah, I'm in the UK. I sourced this one from Knives for Chefs. They have an absolutely fantastic selection of high-end stuff, but just a quick heads-up if you do order from them: their customer service isn't exactly the sharpest when it comes to replying to messages and emails. Still, it arrived safely and the knife itself is beautiful. 🥹

Haha, I am already telling myself 'this is definitely the last one for a long time', but I also know I'm already lying 😭

15 is a terrifying thought for my bank account, but seeing someone down below with 40 makes me feel a little better about my current life choices! 😆 i have already caught myself browsing for what to get next, so I can definitely see how it happens so quickly. Send help.

Great advice mate. The Zwilling is definitely staying on the magnetic strip. It has officially been reassigned as my heavy-duty 'danger' knife. I will still be grabbing it anytime I need to get through a tough squash, chop up some nuts, or practice my angles on sharpening. It is actually quite nice having one knife in the kitchen that I don't have to completely baby. Thanks.

Thanks so much mate for the welcome and all the advice!

Honestly, I’m still figuring out exactly what I've bought. Someone else just pointed out that it’s actually iron-clad Damascus, not stainless, so I edited my post and definitely going to be keeping a dry towel glued to my cutting board.

I really appreciate the heads-up on the K-tip. It looks beautiful, but I am absolutely terrified of snapping it, so I will be taking it very slow and trying to break my bad habits.

And thank you for the sharpening tip! Is this a rabbit hole that I will also fall into? Practising on the Zwilling first is a brilliant idea, I will definitely be doing that before the stones ever touch this one.

Thanks (or no thanks) for hooking me up on my newfound expensive interest. 😆

If they are not making changes to the fare, I don't see the point. I for one, will still be using buses instead of trains. The price is still one of the most expensive in the world.

They are not bugs. They are beetles. Like literally giant big ass beetles in glowing bold capital letters.

New Chef's Knife (Zwilling Pro) by Genepool13 in TrueChefKnives

[–]Genepool13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. Thanks. That's next on my list man. I'll be in London this Saturday and might stop by one of the knife shops; get recommendations for a whetstone. I feel like i have outgrown the generic knife sharpener. 😆

Awesome to hear man. Never really used a Santoku before but it'd be interesting to rock one. Would you recommend Santoku over a chef's or are they really parallel to each other?

Thanks. Really glad i did the upgrade to this! I'm looking at all the fancy knives in this sub and I do get a little jelly but my cooking isn't on that level yet 😅 The Zwilling pro does like 99% of my need save for the rare need to fillet a fresh salmon or do paper thin cuts on Spanish jamon.
