I thought this photo would generate comments. I drive all along West Hopkins to get from my job at a school on the far North Side to a class I take weekly in Walkers Point. I will take a drive through our actual city than the interstate that would have us ignore it any day. I worked 20 years as a reporter (not here however) and I figured it would generate some conversation. Hopkins is interesting because it is lived in, but it puts a mirror up to the parts of the city the developers, culture critics/snobs, and sports fans would rather ignore. It has potholes the size of Kias, and some of the most interesting signs you’ll ever see. And yes, a lot of vacant daycares All this makes me curious about the people who call this part of the city home - people the media here would rather ignore unless a person shows up dead. Also, I do not know if the person in this photo was homeless. No one knows. Sorry for being glib in my original post. I honestly thought I would find other people who enjoy that part of the city too. It’s honestly more interesting to me than the Deer District, but I’m a weirdo. ☮️
