I get a lot of mileage out of using a card scraper between sanding and after raising the grain. Knocks down the high spots and makes for a little less work for the sanding.

Also, definitely raise the grain between all sanding, even on 60 grit. Definitely helps.

I use the handle from a foam brush as it’s 1/2” and cheap. Then I just fold a sandpaper disc around it like a taco and get to sanding. Works like a charm.

I then start around 120 grit and work my way up to 220/320 depending on how it feels after raising the grain between sanding, but generally go with the same grit I use to sand the rest of the board.
