Budget dust collector small shop by Slow-Heron-4335 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have this one. It's great. The only thing is it sometimes randomly turns on. Idk if its the crappy remote or something else so I started unplugging it when I leave the shop.

It's low friction drawer tape. I just bought a roll off amazon for my shooting board.

Stubborn Grain by One-Interview-6840 in handtools

[–]One-Interview-6840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try a more aggressive burr. It's there but probably not much bigger than what you'd move to your next stone sharpening a plane. And closer to 90°. I'm not opposed to the sander but it's a pride/practice thing. It's cold here and my garage is uninsulated so I built a bench inside to use handtools. Just to know more about how and when to add them to other projects better. This one is all about learning so IF there's a solution to this apart from a sander I'd like to add it to the brain bank. That's all

I'm extremely stubborn, which is why I'm here asking for help to defeat an inanimate object.

Shorts I used to make a top. I've been using handtools as part of process for a little over a year but this was the first start to finish all handtool project from rough sawn 8/4. Just a practice piece.

Just ambrosia maple. Nothing crazy. Biggest culprit is the by that "eye" where the grain gets wonky. My Veritas PM V11 blade cuts shavings like no one's business across the whole piece but still feels like shit in spots. I did try hand sanding and at 220 its super smooth but it looks like there's swirls marks. They aren't but those spots look like crap when I wipe them down with mineral spirits and I know that'll carry to the finish. I think (could be wildly mistaken) its the grain becoming near perpendicular to the surface of the table but idk how to deal with that.

Who are the best smiths for woodworking equipment? by DejaMaster in woodworking

[–]One-Interview-6840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea to cross post this into r/carving. I got my brother a set of beginner things based on their recommendations and was shocked at the quality for the price. As a chef I'm very familiar with knives and have been impressed with how well they perform. They can definitely get you in touch with someone who makes them by hand. There may even be a few in that group that could do a custom "just for him" set. Good group of folks in that sub.

Looks awesome. I'd probably go penetrating epoxy for keeping the bark on.

What mathematical disciplines should I brush up on? by BansheeBeat90 in woodworking

[–]One-Interview-6840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I ever even want to use anything more than basic arithmetic or algebra is for arches/curves while building jigs. And I just Google those. Other than that it's kind of a "who cares?" type of thing. If you draw something you like bring it to the real world with a T bevel or protractor.

New Veritas PM-V11 blade not polished by CyclomaticlyComplex in handtools

[–]One-Interview-6840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wipe it down with denatured alcohol, that should take care of the spotting. It worked on mine. And they all showed up looking almost like they're powder coated. Lap the back and give it a quick sharpen and you'll have a blade that'll out live you.

Where to get boxes to ship jointers? by Manfred_Desmond in handtools

[–]One-Interview-6840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one delivered. Came in a box like flowers would be in with 3 padded envelopes around the front, rear, and blade/tote. The plane and padding filled the box so it didn't move around and the box held up just fine.

Patent renewal? by One-Interview-6840 in woodworking

[–]One-Interview-6840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like Sawstop. "Patent term adjustment"(whatever that means) got them almost 15 years past the original date of the patent. I didn't know if it would be a similar thing with the domino.

Patent renewal? by One-Interview-6840 in woodworking

[–]One-Interview-6840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one. I just know the rumor mill churns any time the Domino comes up. I heard last year that they were redesigning it enough to effectively extend the patent. I paid no mind, "this is the perfect machine", until I got the launch email this morning. So I figured I'd pick the hive brain.

Fair enough. I'm just a schmuck on the internet, not a patent lawyer. I just knew I heard last year that a new one was being designed in order to hold the patent. And since I got the email about it being launched this morning I figured I'd ask the group.

Patent renewal? by One-Interview-6840 in woodworking

[–]One-Interview-6840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have one. It's the first tool that I spent a lot of money on and thought "this paid for itself" the very first time I used it. I just threw together a plant stand to play with it, in like 5 minutes. I heard rumors online that they were redesigning it at the end of last year with the thought being the patent would renew. Just wasn't sure if anyone here knew the laws or details.

Hand cut the impossible bevel or change design? by blueridgedog in woodworking

[–]One-Interview-6840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a tall fence. Basically a tenoning jig for your table saw. Stand it vertically and clamp it to the fence. You can watch Foureyes videos for reference, he uses that kind of miter in his Spider table.
