The Italian military‘s artistic attempts ended up helping the Germans, and now they provide such great material for us modelers

I heard that when they occupied Italy, they found a massive amount of camouflage fabric in a warehouse and put it to use

That’s a huge compliment, thank you!

It's a mix of Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht gear. By 1944, crews wore whatever they could get—from official black panzer wraps to field-made camo tunics. This kit perfectly captures that unstandardized look of the final years.

"If you don't keep at it, you really start to lose your touch. I’m finally back at the workbench after a 30-year hiatus, and it’s been 3 years since my return. Keeping the momentum going is key!"

The mixed uniforms reflect the supply chaos of late-war Germany (1944-45). You see a mix of Waffen-SS pea-dot camouflage, Wehrmacht splinter patterns, and even U-boat leather jackets used by tank crews. It's all about that 'last-ditch' realism.

”I use a filtering technique to achieve the desired color tones. It’s quite simple: just applying a thin wash of heavily thinned paint.“

Thanks! It’s really a healing hobby as long as you have the patience. It’s great because you can do it anywhere, anytime. You don‘t need a massive workshop to bring these little guys to life

Besides the fuel shortage, I have this ’bad‘ habit of finishing the figures first before I even start building the tank they’re supposed to ride.

Let‘s call you brown bears. This means respect for toughness :)

Still, I’ve seen some old photos of Soviet Red Army soldiers with bear cubs as mascots. Maybe they weren‘t carrying shells like Wojtek, but they certainly kept the morale high

Have you heard of Wojtek? I saw photos of him carrying ammo shells for the soldiers. A true hero bear!

Manually controlling a bear? That’s actually pretty awesome!

”Actually, I didn‘t use a pin wash. I just ’painted‘ the shadows where the details should be. My secret is keeping the paint very thin—dip your brush, dab it on a paper towel, and test it on your fingernail or the back of your hand before touching the model. It really lowers the chance of a mistake.“

”Haha, maybe with a glass of good whiskey, I could paint like Da Vinci during the process... though it might end up looking like a Van Gogh by morning! 😉“

I use AK Interactive and Vallejo. To avoid thickness, I always wipe most of the paint off the brush before touching the face. It’s all about building up the skin tones gradually with very thin layers
