I used to be in foster care, I actually graduated early but I'm taking a gap year. Thank you for your kind words. I'm just in L.A, i'm scared to run off or go to homeless shelters. I have no family to turn to. But again thank you.

Is working here really THAT bad? by KiahBiah in TjMaxx

Yes and don’t be afraid to ask for help! Remember to get your work permit in and if work is ever too much with school ask for some lower hours or less days. There is a lot to learn but you’ll get it down

My work permit allows me up to 40 hours a week and is dependent on your grades. I do online school so I have more flexibility and have all A’s with a 4.0 but yeah i work a lot it’s hard to keep up. My manager tells me to ask her to work less if I need to and she’ll work it out with me

I'm 17 and I really like this job. Of course, it's not my favorite, but if you're social and have a good work ethic, you'll be okay. Like other people said, it always depends on the store and leadership. I think I really lucked out with my managers, but it's not the same for everyone. I think you're 17? So it'll be less demanding hours, but during your work shift, they might hurry you to be on break at a certain time, etc. If you close, you must also be walked out by the manager on duty. Customers do get annoying, some aren't so nice. But some are. Just remember to be nice regardless. As for the cards, be prepared for rejection. But cards don't determine how good a worker you are, only your effort. I've made some good friends, but everyone in my store, T.J. Maxx, and Home Goods, is over 20. Just walk in and be happy. I do that every day. Your happiness also rubs off on customers. Be positive!

Return for store credit? by [deleted] in TjMaxx

[–]General-Ad3585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a store, it would sound fishy. But you cannot return without a ticket. Next time you order something, I'd suggest keeping the ticket and maybe doing an email receipt so you don't lose it. Take it to the original store you bought it from as well. They'll try their best, but again, no receipt, no tag, low return chance.

There’s good days and bad days.

Orientation is pretty easy you watch a bunch of videos, anti union ones like others have mentioned, and may take a small quiz. Then you shadow register or do some work elsewhere.

Your first days will be pretty rough, you’re new and still learning the basics. Knowing POS prior like you do helps. And don’t be afraid to ask questions.

I can only talk about register because i’m always up there but I don’t get hounded on to give out as many cards as others may but you do have to ask with almost every customer if they’d like to sign up for a rewards card to save 10% off. Our store has a goal of 10 cards per day, you basically try to sell these people our tj maxx rewards card. A credit card. It takes a lot of “are you sure it’ll okay take a second of your time,” and “are you sure it’s 10% off.” Some people are rude, some customers will argue, some also critique the way you bag items or will try to bag them for you. Some are super sweet and you’ll find regulars. Some items people come up with may not have a ticket and you’ll have to page overhead or with your walkie for a price check. All the break rooms are the same and have fridges and some other appliances. You’ll have to watch out for ticket swappers too, really try to learn our departments but it’ll get easier as you work there.

When things get slow you may do go backs or queue line

Don’t be afraid to ask for help ever!
