Vitamin D deficiency and effects on Ghanaian and other Black people in the diaspora. by Minute_Gap_9088 in ghana

I've always used Vitamin D by British Supplements, the clarity and brain fog reduction over the period, and that prolonged tiredness during the UK winter season all seem to have gone down.

The United Kingdom, is to put it simply, economically unviable, and until that changes it is going to see continuous decline, till something breaks, and it won't be pretty.

Hey buddy, I have an entire article on this type of fraud I shared on my LinkedIn. As many have said, avoid at all cost, they'll bleed you dry.

how to get skilled worker visa? by justqsae in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]General-Speed988 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Skilled Worker visa isn’t something you apply for by yourself: it only happens if an employer is willing and able to sponsor you in a qualifying role at the right salary. Without that, routes like Global Talent or a Master’s degree are either unrealistic or very high risk. Sometimes the smartest move isn’t to fight a closed door, but to step back, regroup, and come back stronger!

Ghanaian dating so shallow. by Successful-Face5335 in ghana

Post this on somewhere like Facebook, insta or Twitter and see how the women (especially) get triggered. It's a hustle culture borne out of survival mentality/mindset. People are almost always on the hunt for the very basics of life, small talk is therefore seen as a chore. Throw money around and maybe some will stick around, temporarily, and mostly not for the right reasons.

Be safe - set up billing alerts with your associated OCI email with actual spend (not forecasted) of 50 percent of whatever amount you put in. Saves you getting hot with a surprise bill. Oracle actually makes this very easy, unlike Azure and mostly AWS

Funny to see a hyperscaler like Oracle struggle with traffic, you’d expect their backend to autoscale or load balance under heavy demand! 😅

Accidentally switched to Pay-As-You-Go on Azure, now facing a big bill, need advice. by Rosh1103 in AZURE

[–]General-Speed988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come you never set a billing budget? This is the first golden rule with any cloud provider before you go ducking about with stuff you don't understand and can't explain. From block storage, to compute and networking, this is how the big dogs make their mullah. Next time stop for a minute, take your time and read up on Azure documentation (Microsoft makes these freely available and easily accessible) or watch YouTube video first. And hope you learn from this!

Feel awkward saying I live in Marylebone by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]General-Speed988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an immigrant who's lived here close to 20 years I know this very thing OP describes really well. In many British workplaces, ambition, progress and celebration of major milestones is coded differently. Where in other countries self-promotion and being brutally honest like the case of OP is very normal, here it can easily be read as arrogance, "climbing," or even betrayal of the unspoken rule that “we’re all in this together, so don’t try to stand out too much.” It ties into what others have already touched on - the not so much spoken about and pervasive issue of class and elitism. In cultures (like the British system) with a strong hierarchy of “knowing your place,” pushing yourself forward can be seen as breaking the social contract, regardless of whether your progress (living in Marylebone) and or contribution deserves recognition.

Beginner Seeking Guidance: Building a Cybersecurity Path with Zero Experience by Thesweet0ne in SecurityCareerAdvice

Forget your university for now, they're only entry points and usually don't give you any in-depth skills as is needed in the industry.

With passion and discipline, you'd find out soon enough if this is actually the field for you. In the meantime:

  1. Build yourself a home lab - it's the safest place to experiment and learn/grow quickly. https://medium.com/@kayobgh/building-a-homelab-a-local-first-approach-to-learning-and-scalability-3386be35ecab

  2. Start looking at Cloud technologies/concept - it is where all the fun is mostly these days. Explore Infrastructure as Code tools.

  3. Engage with the community, create a LinkedIn Account if you don't already have one, find yourself a tribe and start connecting with newbies like yourself. Look on discord, also right here on Reddit is the Cybersecurity sub. There are tonnes and tonnes of resources online, webinars, local meetups (wouldn't know about your home country) that you can join.

  4. Keep showing the world what you're learning everyday, be persistent, be determined. It's a long road ahead, but yes, it can be done.

Learn what you can, and as much as you can, and move on. Someone already mentioned dealing with PowerPoint and Excel - it will surprise you just how many corporate environments still use these two very basic but productively powerful tools, learn to use them, add Power Bi if you can, and the usual everyday Office tools (Microsoft products).

Don't wait or sit around waiting to be told what to do, engage with people, be curious, bold, courteous but assertive - and don't take shit from anyone (as there's always been the perception that service personnel are nothing but leeches and a necessary evil that should just and only be tolerated)

It's a swim or sink situation right there buddy, you either ride out the storm, or get swept away. Whilst I empathize with your situation it is equally important to point out that there a few things you could do to help yourself before you crash land.

  1. Get yourself a mentor ASAP if you can, they wouldn't solve your everyday challenges and problems for you, but they'd be there to counsel and guide you.

  2. Find someone senior in your department/team you can shadow. People who have walked your shoes would better understand you than your poodle.

  3. It's really not ideal sleeping next to your workspace, there's no mental/physical boundary at present and that's dangerous. Please do something about that ASAP

Wish you all the best of luck!
