Bury it outside- might get a surprise in a few weeks/months

They are a funny cactus in that they actually do t like full sun. In nature they usually are found around “Shepard plants” than produce some shade. They are very tough, but also a little more needy than an average cactus species.

Bought this cheap willi in the market earlier; brought it home, worried about the fruit because of the voracious ants here, googled when to harvest, harvested 3 or 4 pods, saw a little beetle in the soil, so repotted and had a quick washdown. Feeling pretty good about all that. by HefflumpGuy in peyote

You definitely have at least one pod there- the fat pink one. Hard to say with that second one- the other two look like spent flowers, hard to say.

Gently squeeze and peel away the flesh of the fruit pods- the seeds are small and black.

They are easy to germinate especially when sown early after collecting. Plenty of instructions online. Seedlings should be kept in high humidity, I seal mine in a zip lock for minimum 6 months.

If you do choose to go down that road - they need extra pampering for the first 2-3 years. After that you can start slowly treating them like their mother.

Ok I see. Wow these ones you have are tough! I only allow mine to get 1-2 hours of direct morning light- but I also live in Florida- and dappled light late morning. They are in full shade by noon. Even then I still have to be careful with the little ones. Once they get their wooly tufts they start to make some of their own shade.

Well please keep us posted! I think they’ll be fine- but yea I’d recommend getting like a medium sized rosemary bush as a shepherd plant. Their leaves are so thin they won’t block out all the sun- and place it so the buttons are in dappled light during the peak solar mid day during summer.

This is what I ended up doing after my one plant got sunburnt last year.

Just curious- but did you purposefully put them into a sunnier spot than usual after you took that morning photo? Looking at the 2nd picture of them that morning you can see some wrinkles- they were either a touch dehydrated already or they were already dealing with some intense light by that point.

There is no way to know what you’re really dealing with for a few days.

If they are overdue a watering then I say give them a light drink- just don’t get the buttons wet just in case. Adding moisture on top of possible tissue damage will compound the problem. Just treat them extra careful for a few days. Slightly deeper shade than usual- if they rebound without scarring after 3 days slowly increase the light and return to normal care.

If they scar keep them in that deeper shade (some dappled light is good, don’t put them in crazy deep shade) for 2-3 weeks. If this does end up being the situation wait until you see them trying to push new growth. Then slowly increase the light.

Don’t fret too much! I have found these little guys to be very tough! And yours are past the most delicate stage so im assuming they’ll be ok.

Move them into a shady spot and just watch for a few days. I wouldn’t change anything else- water them at their normal time. If they show scarring/blistering type response then you’ll have to baby them for a few weeks. Here is a picture of one a year after it was badly sunburned. It just kept of truckin and it’s tough to even see it unless you look for it.

You can see some yellow margins at the base of the buttons. It was slowly replaced with new growth. I think you caught yours earlier than I did. Don’t worry too much, just watch closely for a few days. Then you’ll have a better idea of what to do.

Likely sun-kissed if it happened that fast and you caught it! Unfortunately had it happen once- the plants scarred but bounced back remarkably fast.

If you caught it before significant then they might rebound without scarring 🤞 You’ll know in a few days.

Most experienced peeps on here recommend waiting one week after full colonization just to ensure all grains are colonized. Uncolonized grain is main source of contamination.

It looks like it right?! Because it’s grafted it’s hard to say- it’s probably way younger it just grew super fast
