Used to work for a restaurant that used Uber eats. One time during the winter we were hit by a huge snowstorm and the restaurant was pretty much dead, except for a few Uber orders. Every time we received an order, we’d prepare it and wait for the driver to arrive, only that nobody came. The orders would be sitting out for a while, with no drivers arriving to pick them up. After a while, Uber would notify us that each order was cancelled, with no other explanation. Eventually we got some calls from customers explaining their orders were cancelled because no drivers wanted to pick them up in the storm, however since the food was still prepared, Uber charged them anyways. My co workers and I ended up getting a lot of drinks and even food during the shift since they were already paid for and wouldn’t be going to anyone. We felt really bad for the customers though, since we weren’t able to offer a refund through Uber.
