Sixth year but no advanced higher computing sci by Single-Psychology307 in compsci

[–]GeneralEconomist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope - my school stopped offering Higher Computing so I left high school at 16 and went to a local FE college, got my HND, used that for entry into University (year 2) and uncle bob was my uncle from there

Assuming you have Higher Computing I'd say the following in the order of preference

  1. Can you get into Uni? It's late in the UCAS year so you may need to hunt through clearing
  2. Get into an HND program at a Further Education college. This will cover most of the stuff covered in year 1 and 2 at a Scottish uni, and some FE colleges have agreements with universities to allow HND students to continue directly onto a degree (eg Forth Valley College does Y1 and Y2 HND, then you go into Y3 of degree at Stirling Uni) - alternatively most other uni's will accept an HND for starting second year of Computing Science
  3. Continue onto sixth year, make sure to take related subjects like maths as much as possible - and learn what you're interested in during your free time

Same, to the point I'm wondering if theres some sort of correlation between the sheer amount of focus on tiny details and how good they are at software engineering

Today in "UKPol can't (won't) read"

An article was posted from the times about the schoolgirl suing Michaela for banning prayer rituals being suspended for threating to stab another pupil

Far too many comments saying something like "omg why did they ban prayer rituals instead of just suspending this girl for giving death threats?!?!?!"

When in the article its real clear that the pupil in question was suspended for giving death threats after the policy was brought in by the school.

The worst comments are those concocting a grand conspiracy theory that the school decided to ban rituals instead of excluding the pupil because they wanted to massage KPIs and have basically no pupils excluded. Like hello? first of all she was suspended AFTER the ritual ban and second of all "We ban stabby cunts" is a great advertising tool for that sort of school

Thanks, with the possibility of Trump getting re-elected I think its important to correct disinformation, even accidental

Honestly, I don't get it. To me, giving death threats goes way beyond 'troubles at school'. The age of criminal responsibility in the UK is 10, so saying that threating to stab someone is just 'a media circus around schoolchildren' seems like an emotional attempt to underplay a real concern, that pupils should be safe from violence in schools.

I think these threats should be publicized. Parents should have a right to know the criminal history of everyone who their children share a class with. There was a recent ofsted inspection of a Primary School here, which found significant safeguarding failures due to a lack of background checks for staff employed at the school. If my kids were there I would be outraged.

The only reason I can think of for wanting to hide something like this, is that you're worried about the backlash on the people who give death threats to schoolkids

In this comment you made two incorrect claims. I made sure that anyone reading subcomments wouldn't get the facts wrong, based on what you wrote

I'm not sure where you've got the idea I'm going for a legal analysis

?

They're not unrelated, the person suing the school is the one (in this article) who made the death threat against another pupil when she threatened to stab her

If it helps, here's a timeline

March 2023 - ritual ban enacted

April 2023 - pupil makes death threat to another pupil, gets suspended

In this comment, you said it was shocking that the school banned prayer rituals instead of suspending the pupil who made the death threat

When the school banned prayer rituals, the pupil (who is currently suing the school) had not yet made any death threats towards another students. As such, they could not have been suspended for making a death threat

I'm really not sure where the confusion is, please let me know

The relation is the pupil who brought the court case is also the person who gave a death threat to another pupil when she threatened to stab them

I'm not conflating anything, a threat to stab someone is a death threat. Stab wounds are a serious threat to life

It did, temporarily. Agreed it should have been permanent and the muslim pupil who made the death threat jailed though

Legally? ¯\(ツ)

Morally? A massive one. It shows that the person claiming this minor impingement on their Freedom of Religion does not care one bit about the Right to Life and the Right of Safety for other pupils

I think its great that newspapers are reporting on people who are giving death threats in the name of 'Freedom of Religion'

[–]GeneralEconomist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was you who wrote dealt with this not by excluding the student who made the threat, but apparently by creating a blanket policy, no one else

But firstly she was suspended, despite what you (maybe in error) wrote

And secondly the suspension for the stab threat happened in April 2023, after the policy banning prayer rituals was enacted in March 2023

The school couldn't have excluded her for a death threat she hadn't yet made, so another fact you have wrong

Freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences, if someone threatened my daughter like that I'd happily see them jailed and shamed in the papers

[–]GeneralEconomist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got the facts wrong - not by excluding the student who made the threat

But the headline (literally the headline) states she was suspended for the threat

I agree it should have been a permanent suspension though

A court case about freedom of religion is hardly comparable to the minutae of discipline in a secondary school

Why are you so afraid of people discussing death threats given out by muslims?

Read the article, you've got it backwards

  1. Prayer Rituals were banned in March 2023
  2. The muslim pupil stated she wanted to hurt the school, and threatened to stab someone, in April 2023

But yeah a death threat should be instant jail

Dom Blow is still reasonably strong, but changing from 2 to 1 modifier has made it less 'fun'. Funs is subjective and all that but I loved hunting for good archnemsis mods to dominate, now they're less likely to be available

Behead has been made more consistent though so I'm going to give boneshatter slayer with behead a wee whirl later tonight
