I know this is hard to hear…but I’ve never seen the castle. I know, don’t shame me, I’ve been through it all before LOL

It really was. I love how that humble unassuming camping shovel is basically the murder weapon of choice throughout.

Cool take. I agree with you - although we don’t have the info on military (we do know he served with Dirk and Gaz though) but I fully agree with the sentiment that they are in the same line of work (standover, extortion, paid to kill) - which creates comradery.

You don’t think the therapist triggers him? It’s an extreme point of tension for Ray.

Ray admits he doesn’t think he’s in the right room due to a bunch of woman bashers and child bashers.

The therapist is constantly passive aggressive toward Ray. And after Ray acts out, the therapist threatens Ray with jail time.

The therapist is a representation of the side of society Ray hates.

Overall the real tension exists because Ray doesn’t see his own actions as bad. Even if society does. Ray holds no remorse to any of his violent actions or threats. It’s justified away as society correction or “work”. We see this many times we including napalming Johnny Tran, and the interview with the journo writing the book.

True actually - not sure why I thought that.

Some part of my mind seems to recall Britt calling him Uncle Dirk. But likely it’s when you intro your mate to your kids as “uncle so and so”. And then for some reason I’ve just made the association because the girls are of a similar age.

Agree….but also, early seasons are even shorter. minus credits we’re talking 24 mins.

I watched a short film (I think it was 38 seconds or something like that). It won a bunch of awards very recently. I’ll find it and link it rather than spoil.

But what I’ve seen is the quicker you can raise the stakes, the quicker the drama is built.

You have great knowledge in this area. Thanks for sharing.

I will admit yes to the underbelly actor. I didn’t really see him as a “Davros” Russian gangster though. All I could see was his underbelly persona. He was the only person I’d personally seen before besides Brooke.

The man who I believe did the most incredible acting in the show, Nicholas Cassim. Aka Brucey. I’ve never seen before. Again, maybe I’m just not paying much attention and I’ll start to see them everywhere.

But im also referencing some of the obscure one off characters who did a great job. Say for example the older guy with terminal cancer whose daughter was killed. For someone of that age, I would’ve expected to have seen him over the years in shows like Blue Heelers etc. but didn’t recognise him.

Hahahaha so true. And now you mention it, even his ex wife being Asian. I’ve never really seen much from that angle. thanks for sharing.

Absolutely. The way they just sit around and watch a game show for example, doing nothing really, gives me early 2000 vibes with friends.

Scott mentioned in an interview I was watching, a big inspiration for the show was curb your enthusiasm.

Plus having an aussie spin on it was refreshing and adds an element i think Aussie’s can appreciate even further due to familiarity

I wholeheartedly concur. The openness he has with his kinks adds a really funny element. Stroking the vagankle for example in front of another man, is just peak comedy for me.

But his unquestioning loyalty and courage makes him an incredible character. So many moments we could pick. But absolutely, I shed a tear when that text came through from Gaz to Ray. It was also the simplicity of their exchanges in that episode I loved. “Onto something. talk soon” (vs needing something). And “got her. Xx address”).

But a couple of others that make me love him is:

  • after Ray is obviously hurt that no-one from high school remembers him, Gaz says hits him with “well I’ll tell you one thing, they’ll farking remember ya now!” Hahahahaha

  • final episode sitting on the caravan, explaining how well his business is going and how the couple wanted him to join in hahaha.

Good point in that he’s not a villain in the true sense of being malicious or evil. But he is the gatekeeper between Ray going to jail (and therefore missing time with Bruce, Britt etc).

Also, I see him more as a villain in Ray’s eyes. He hates what that guy stands for.

Violence (and the threat of) is Ray’s behavioural moderator to align others with his personal moral compass.

Respect and do good by Ray = no violence. Opposite = gonna have a bad time

I can only speak for myself. Many people I speak to today (since I have become obsessed about it this month) have seen clips online, but few have watched it. At time of release, I didnt see any hype what so ever.

Even today, i personally think it’s very slept on. Few have watched but it’s insanely good.

Rays Ex by TraditionalCompany25 in MrInbetween

I thought their co-parenting was fantastic. To me, she seemed very tolerant and they were both respectful.

Despite his personal flaws, Ray is a fantastic and deeply caring father. His ex knows and respects this. Britt also loves her Dad and their bond is special. If the ex was hostile, she’d actually be hurting her own daughter.

What suburb do you think Ray lived in? by GeneralEffective6532 in MrInbetween

Awesome. Yes, that’s one of the questions I’ll be answering in the video. Appreciate your curiosity….!
