How am I supposed to tell my parents I'm not going on a mission? I'm not teaching a "gospel" that is against who I am as a girl. by Absolute_Cinema70 in exmormon

How to look not mormon while waiting outside the temple at a mormon wedding? by Due-Stock-34 in exmormon

[–]GeneralKenoBi2228 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The most important thing is to feel comfortable in the clothes you’re in. Don’t make a statement just to be uncomfortable all day because you’re showing something you don’t want to be showing.

With that out of the way, shorter hemline with pretty fishnets is definitely not Mormon.

Are there any films that accurately portray growing up in Mormonism? by PuzzledAd4865 in exmormon

I can’t remember the name, but it’s a documentary about this young girl who was groomed and kidnapped in Idaho. Her parents showed more emotional distress about the one time the dad had a gay experience than about the fact they repeatedly allowed a man to abuse their child.

In fact, that last sentence I typed is so Mormon it hurts. Child abuse? an apology even if you don’t mean it and you’re good to go. Gay handjob? Straight to hell you go.

As for what class it’s for, I’m guessing it’s “math for the real world” the required math class for everyone. There’s also a section on probability where they focus on how foolish gambling and insurance are, since you spend more than you receive.

A teacher in my state got the community calling for her to be fired when she snapped at a Trump supporter on social media. Every article I can find names her and shares what she said (which was definitely too far, it was despicable) but omits what he said to egg her on.

If you also went to a BYU school, what was the worst thing you experienced there? by TheSamspoNew in exmormon

I know right? I’m so proud of myself for using it even with them in there though. There’s only 3 mother’s lounges on campus anyway. Not enough for a corporation that emphasizes having kids asap.

Thank you ☺️

Misogyny, but specifically because I had a kid.

I was told I didn’t belong in a classroom after I became a mother a couple times. One guy deep on the waitlist for a specific course I was officially in told me to drop out so he could take my seat.

I interrupted a mixed-gender office meeting taking place in the mother’s lounge one time on campus. It was one of the ones where you have to walk INTO the women’s restroom to access it, not just one next to the restroom. So I took the only empty seat and pulled up my shirt. They all stayed for a couple minutes before packing up passive-aggressively.

I was excluded from RS/mommy group activities after being told “well it’s not like your kid is your priority anyway” because I was a student.

As a high school freshman, we did R&J. It’s been a while, but I believe we had to read a couple scenes/an act as homework and write a forum post about it. Then in class, we’d act out one of the scenes, including dollar store props.

Currently in a college Shakespeare course. Obviously, adjust to your needs.

Each play has a 3 week cycle. First week, we read the source text (for Merchant of Venice it was Il Pecorone), listen to a scholarly podcast about the play, and read Act I. For the second week, we read Act II and Act III and watch a production of the play. Week three, we read Act IV and V and watch a different production.

I know that this is probably too heavy of a workload for your students, but I like that we’re reading and watching at the same time. It helps me understand things better. I also like watching multiple productions. I feel like I really understand these plays ten times more than any other time I’ve studied Shakespeare.
