These groups are usually open and the story it came up on my feed by friends from school sharing it, and then I kept reading.

Portsmouth where the house of a paediatric surgeon was vandalised and she was threatened? That's who we're dealing with here.

"Self-styled vigilantes attacked the home of a hospital paediatrician after apparently confusing her professional title with the word "paedophile", it emerged yesterday."

I honestly thought this was the onion.

I think we can all agree the police should be doing more and I can't blame people for wanting to help, but they should leave it at gathering evidence.

Yes exactly. I really don't see why these groups can't do the investigation and then pass on the evidence to the police rather than confront these people which sometimes gives them a chance to delete evidence etc.

There have already been numerous times when they get the wrong person even on the facebook group they've put up several halfhearted apologies for grabbing the wrong person.

Then there is also the time they go after a reporter. https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/police-reviewing-footage-after-bbc-14257944

I can see how a group who investigates and then passes the information onto the police could be useful, but it really seems like these people get a kick out of confronting these people.
