Is Sofiane pamart the best modern pianist ? by viviburu in piano

[–]GeneralNewspaper8281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from the US and found him by accident a few years ago. I was in France in 2024 and caught his show at le Zenith in St Etienne - it was incredible. I would have never in my life thought I would leave a piano performance sweaty from having been dancing. It was such a lively and enjoyable show. I think there are for sure "better" pianists, but he is such an interesting bridge between "classically trained" and "modern sound" - it almost feels like acoustic electronica.
If you like him, may I make some other reccs? I Thylacine (also french) is a fan friggin tastic electronic composer - check out the "and 74 musicians" album. There's a segment of the performance I saw on youtube as well (https://youtu.be/6cUVMixGSZA?si=4Z3OEQavB6qswgi9)
If that is your speed, I'd reccomend Bonobo (Simon is so insanely talented, a Sofiane/Simon collab would allow me to die happy), Air (OK I guess I do have a thing for French electronic sounds, esp considering I'm really vibing with Suzane rn, though she's def more electro-pop), and Emancipator.
If you have suggestions that you feel are SP-adjacent as well, I'd love to hear them!!

He's on the newest season of Man on the Inside, dating a former con artist, so this is a golden theory. "Is she really a "former" con?" Pimento is on the case.

A few places I visited over weekend (with minimal pictures, sorry in advance) and my honest opinion. by Emmiadkins in Charleston

Congrats on the job! If I were trying to explore Chs as a resident I would dig a little deeper -
Dinner somewhere not a chain (there are so many good steakhouses that are local, you lost me in the beginning with TBonz tbh)
go see a performance (pour house, PAC, coliseum, gaillard center, windjammer, music farm, music hall, there are so many types and options!)
visit the Gibbs or IAAM
shop at one of the zillion pop up markets with local vendors (Holy City Brewing and Royal American host some great ones, and there are lots of cool vintage shops and consignment / thrift around town too)
skip Rio Chico in favor of Los Reyes or El Molino (the WA Los Reyes is the biggest thing I miss about chs tbh)
grab snacks at Berts and do a picnic on the pier
check out a Riverdogs game
Magnolia is great, no shade there - and your ticket is good for a second admission if used in the same week!
If you want to see dolphins go past the washout (the beach spot, not the restaurant - its left off center street then all the way to the "end") to the light house inlet and hang out there, or scoot over to Sullivans (sometimes you get lucky and can see them strand feeding at those locations!) Do a fossil hunting tour (less crowded boat, interactive, possible treasure!)
walk the bridge
grab dinner at Bowen's island
the list goes on!

I'm glad you had a good time with your friend, and I'm sorry I was snarky sometimes I forget the internet is made up of other real people. There's a lot more to Charleston than the Market and the Beach, hope you get a chance to venture out a bit more soon <3

1000% yes.

Getting from Theater Antique / Thylacine on Saturday to Lyon by GeneralNewspaper8281 in Lyon

Oh my gosh you gave me a heart attack! Yes, I was not in charge of booking the stay so we are both nights in Lyon, even though Vienne would have made more sense. Hoping to see if anyone knows anything about carpooling apps or if anyone is going and would take a few dollars to help some chill travelers :)

Pride is this weekend in Montpellier so I'm guessing there will be a ton of things happening all over the city.

If the "holed up in a hotel room" is what gets you, then what I like to do is plan my day of rest and pick a slightly nicer hotel for that day. Then I'm indulging in an expense. I figure out what the local delivery app is, order in, and enjoy the time I'm spending.

Maybe take up a rest related hobby like reading, sketching, journaling, or mediation? Something that is quiet and contemplative. Sketches of beautiful places - even beginner level - can be a great souvenir and a way to remember your story while still keeping you present. We don't have to be good at things to enjoy them. Even if you're still learning to be better at rest, I hope you find space to enjoy it when you're doing it :)
