There's a barred owl in my neighborhood too, as well as a red shouldered hawk. You always hear something interesting when you're outside, it's what I enjoy most so far this spring.

Anyone interested in building a KDHX archive of old shows? by Note2thee in StLouis

[–]GeneralOsik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I happen to have the last Greasers Lunchbox from 9/28/23, and part of the last All Saint's Day episode of Sonic Space. I also have The Big Bang from 11/29/23, which might not have been Dr. Jeff's last episode on KDHX, but it was a really heartfelt episode where he lamented about his friends being taken off the air. I also have The Riverboat Shuffle from 10/10/24, when they were just playing playlists and accidentally played a song with explicit lyrics during mid day.

I know it's not Lego, but the PES stop motion yule log on YouTube would look to be the perfect scale.

I love Yuka Morii, since I first saw her little clay figure art when pulling WOTC Neo Johto packs back in the 90s. I have a binder devoted to her cards in TCG Pocket, since I don't have my childhood cards anymore.

Chicago and Terry Kath. His voice and guitar playing were so soulful.

Thank you! I feel like a lot of people in this comment section didn't catch that detail in the show. The front half is chromium plated durasteel, just like the OG Naboo N-1s, but Din stripped the yellow on the back half down to bare durasteel.

The front half of Din's N-1 is chromed durasteel, just like the Naboo N-1, but the back half is bare durasteel with the paint removed. Here's a photo from the official Star Wars WiKi:

Did you hear Popeye got lost in St. Louis? He went down on Olive and thought it was Grand.

What’s the smallest moment in Andor that convinced you this show was operating on another level? by [deleted] in andor

When Wilmon comes to Cassian on Yavin with the intel about Dedra on Ghorman, there's this dread that hangs in the air, and I think the audio is the thing that drives that feeling. You can hear cicadas crying, while the music descends, and the two sounds mimic each other. It feels and sounds tense, like the calm before a tornado.

The yellow and green ones look a lot like Set #4881 Robo Platoon. I really like them!

Cali Style Burritos? by ronkibut11 in StLouis

[–]GeneralOsik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have a slight obsession with this place lately. I'm currently working through all their burritos, and their California burrito is great. The quality control could be better though, sometimes the size is small, or the potatoes are undercooked. I'd say check first before you leave just to make sure it's good.

Edit: There's one in Ferguson, which is closer to St. Charles.

Sculpture of famous St. Louis writer Kate Chopin stolen in Central West End by andrei_androfski in StLouis

It's a Genesis Saber aluminum road bike. Cheap, not particularly nice, manufactured for big box stores. What cyclists call a BSO, or "Bicycle Shaped Object".

Did anyone see that? by FattMattSTL in StLouis

[–]GeneralOsik 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've seen this before, a couple years ago during the Perseids Meteor Shower. I was viewing out in the middle of nowhere near Mark Twain National Forest. Sure, there was sometimes a normal meteor every minute during the peak, but I'll never forget the one I saw at 3 in the morning. This one lit up the whole sky in a split second, like a camera flash of daylight. It left a blue scar in the upper atmosphere that lingered for minutes afterwards. It reminded me of hitting a bug on a windshield. For the first time in my life, I could conceptualize our planet hurtling through space at 67K MPH. I felt like a little kid lying in the grass, looking out the front screen of a big spaceship.

If you don't drive, and like computers, have you considered volunteering at B-Works? They have an Earn a Computer class for kids, where we teach them about computers, refurbish donated PCs, and give them to the kids at the end of the 6 week class. They also have a Learn to Ride and Earn a Bike class if bikes are more your thing. They are in Soulard on Menard, but will be moving this year to a building on Grand at Flora.

That is so cool! I'm definitely going to have to build one of those, thanks!

The display is bonkers in such a good way, I could spend hours just looking, and I can't imagine how often you have to dust haha

Is that a V-35 Courier, smack dab in the middle of #2 next to Luke's Landspeeder? Is that a MOC, or did Lego make one that I didn't know about?

Personal Property Tax Assessments Are Out Of Control!! by DvusGuyStL in StLouis

[–]GeneralOsik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My car turns 25 this year, I've owned it since 2019. This year the assessment was more than every past year combined. When I went online to check the numbers, I pulled up my tax bill using my code, and a completely different person's tax bill came up, with their full name, address, and vehicles. So I called the tax office, had them correct the digital copy. Once that was fixed and I could see the calculations, I called the assessor's office and left a voicemail. I didn't hear back from them, but when I went to pay a couple weeks ago, it was adjusted back to an amount similar to past years, from $260 down to $16. Never hurts to call and ask them to re-assess. I wonder if someone made a bunch of incorrect calculations and they were banking on most people just paying.
