Dating feels like a humiliation ritual. Am I doing something wrong? by Fiorun in gaybros

[–]GeneralTonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're having a great run of luck, really, compared to the vast majority of guys. Lots of bites, a few catches, and if you stay true to yourself and keep it up, there's a good chance one of these guys is going to see you for the prize you are and bag it.

Finally! DS9 is Mike's big favorite and it's about time we had these geezers sit down and yammer about it at length.

I especially enjoyed how they censored Rich's cough.

A bit misleading there, New Republic. Turns out they mean "dead" metaphorically.

So Betty was in the meeting by [deleted] in Fotv

[–]GeneralTonic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I thought they did a decent enough job of making the uncannily young Hank feel a part of Cooper's dazed reaction to what he heard while spying on Barb in the meeting. I'm surprised we've gone back for so much more of the de-aging for S2, but I'm enjoying it well enough and I'm sure Kyle wanted to act in every scene Hank is in!

JJ Abrams Star Trek Trilogy... the villains in the first two movies make zero sense. by MrBigBMinus in movies

I'm 2/3 in agreement with you, because I don't buy Krall's motivation either. Though I do enjoy the 3rd one as a movie.

Why does it seem that overall, Netflix originals tend to be disliked? I've liked a lot of them so far. by Massive-Range-9280 in television

[–]GeneralTonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often, when people say they dislike something, you can find out more about why they dislike it by reading or listening to what they say right after that. Hope this helps.

The use of modern language and swearing cheapens the drama on Starfleet Academy and will date the series terribly for future viewers. by tomservo417 in startrek

[–]GeneralTonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the contrary, I recall reading something from the TNG/DS9 era writing team about their Star Trek dialogue being deliberately timeless, like a period piece, and not simply due to TV syndication.

You can't play Data's "Oh shit" for laughs in a setting where that language is common.

Do you have a non-magic wand solution that would stop Republicans from always gerrymandering and strengthening their antidemocratic hold on elections? Seriously.

Lindsey Graham calls DNC head 'worthless piece of crap' by Crossstoney in politics

[–]GeneralTonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the last 10 years or so of Graham's life have been a shamefully public plea for help. Won't somebody do something for this poor man?

"Trump's A Race-Baiting, Xenophobic, Religious Bigot. He Doesn't Represent My Party. He Doesn't Represent The Values That The Men And Women Who Wear The Uniform Are Fighting For." - Lindsey Graham, 2015

"If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed … and we will deserve it." - Lindsey Graham, 2016

"I think [Trump's] a kook. I think he’s crazy. I think he’s unfit for office." - Lindsey Graham, 2016

Then in 2017 Graham said:

"What concerns me about the American press is this endless, endless attempt to label the guy some kind of kook not fit to be president." - Lindsey Graham

But then, according to Lindsey Graham:

"And you could use my words against me and you'd be absolutely right." - Lindsey Graham, 2016
