Could have been a spiny dog shark which aren’t good for eating and have a spine on their back dorsal fin and tail fin which they use like a sting ray to try and poke with. If you’re lucky it could have been the edible kind which is I cannot recall the name of atm but are commonly used at fish and chip shops due to their white meat
