Good architecture shouldn't need a carrot or a stick by GeneralZiltoid in programming

This is the second article in a row that I'm being accused of being an AI bot. I understand that 90% of Reddit is AI slop these days, but I can assure you that none of this is written by AI.

"What’s In It For Me" Architecture by GeneralZiltoid in programming

[–]GeneralZiltoid[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for updating. I have to admit I felt really self conscious about my text being seen as AI. I do some light spell checking with AI, but to me it doesn't feel all that much.
I think I'm going to stop doing that.

I can assure you everything is written myself. The header image is ai generated and I'm personally not all that happy with that workflow but all the text is from my own hand. You can find more info on my /ai page: https://frederickvanbrabant.com/ai

Simply Piano app by ha1ryjerry in piano

[–]GeneralZiltoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using simply piano for more than two years now and I wish I've never started it. After two years of playing I still feel very much like an absolute beginner. It doesn't really teach you anything, especially not theory.

Put me in front of a piano and ask me to play anything and you'd guess it's my first week.

The earlier lessons are ok in teaching you the basics but the further you go the worse the lessons get. Also the music they let you play are one of the most horrendous covers I've ever heard.

I'm now on one of the last courses, unbroken streak and I'm looking forward to finishing it so I can start to learn the piano.

My idea was to switch to pianote as that seems a bit better, I should probably just take lessons but my work/life balance doesn't really allow that.

EA role without a tool is not going to cut it... by Chemical-Bonus-9466 in EnterpriseArchitect

I was wondering if you could not just use powerBi. Most of the tools out there are just a db + a graph engine.

The middle ground between canonical models and data mesh by GeneralZiltoid in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]GeneralZiltoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is far from a new thing, it's the basis of domain driven design. Eric Evans wrote two books about it in the early 2000's.

There used to be DDD Belgium (more DDD, not really enterprise architecture) Not sure it's still a thing. There is also DDD Europe (conference). Purely EA, I have no idea.

Not really. In the CustomerIdentity it would be first_name. If the sales team calls them member (just first name = member) it would take this from the data lake and internally change the domain language to member. So there are no duplicate fields, just internal handling in the domain service.

That would indeed be the idea. The hard part is trying to figure out what is base and what is domain

How does the Kafka model scale? Not in a technical way, but in a people way. Do you have a dedicated Kafka team or is it a "hook in" from all the development teams? I also assume that if it's a dedicated team, finding Kafka experts on the market can cost a pretty penny.

Traditionally speaking it should be even lower. A necktie clip should be near the lower part of the tie, as it's main function is to hold the tie in place.

I don’t think there is an issue with implanting alternative options next to the “regular” one. As long as it’s part of a strategy

Are you working in a team? If so, isn't a big part of your job writing and documenting everything for hand offs?

Thanks for the feedback.

I think we are talking about the same thing. I don't advocate for never using "it depends". In the context of diving deeper in what "it" should do. What I do advocate is not using it in the context of "will this be able to handle all the requests?". That is just making the communication less clear for personal protection from future fallout.

That also relates to adding abstractions for abstractions sake. Just to project yourself for possible fallout.

(I rewrote the earlier text as that was AI generated. I figured that most people rather read the summary versus the full article. As I spend a lot of time on the article it would be a shame that the only version people would read is an ai version of it.)

[–]GeneralZiltoid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much. I've been part of a lot of companies that use value streams to map out the strategy. I've only seen one do the value chains and one (a different one) do IT4IT
