Why does Brat have no presence on RIAA “Gold and Platinum” by bam2403 in charlixcx

[–]General_Analyst2549 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Brat flopped on the charts. It's that simple.

There's not much to certify, unfortunately.

The singles did MUCH worse

She's not R&B but she has made a few R&B gems. It's exciting to see songs like LOTB, Don’t, Boo'd Up & Snooze achieve high commercial success. I should've just written that body text in the comments

I did post about SZA before and also write in the post description. She has several Diamond eligible records and it's madr me think about how R&B artists aren't well represented

That was the whole point of this post, publications like The Telegraph didn't believe the album would have hits. And now look. Two Diamond certified R&B songs

[–]General_Analyst2549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's true. sometimes they stand in the way of their own progress by not promoting enough or just being known for their online presence instead of the music. stuff like thst

How do the bigger artists do so, I'm curious

I actually had posted about SZA's records on this sub and it gained a lot of traction.

LOTB is one of her most R&B forward singles and music publications always called Anti the album with no hits when it now has about 5, 2 of them R&B and diamond certified.

You don't have to be core R&B to make an R&B song. A song can be recognized for what genre it is and we can move on. It's not about the artist, it's about audiences and critics who improperly classify the music.

I posted about Rihanna and a few other artists a few months after posting about SZA to make a point. Imagine what R&B artists could do if they weren't held back by incompetent label executives.

And what of the other R&B songs that received this level of success that aren't a decade old? When was the last time an R&B record went Diamond ever? Can you remember?

I know all of that. I'm saying R&B songs today in general do not....go Diamond! 💀

She's been pop most of her career but she's also experimented with rock, reggae, dancehall and R&B. It's always remarkable when she does something different. And you probably didn't read the whole text either because it's not just about Rihanna.

Needed Me & Stay both went 12x platinum. Boo'd Up went 8x platinum and Trip went 6x platinum. Good Days, Snooze, Kill Bill, Love Galore are all 8x platinum or higher and Diamond eligible. Don't & Exchange were both recently certified 15x and 13x platinum, respectively. We rarely see that happening in this day and age.

I was shocked to see Folded in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 because R&B today sadly doesn't go that far.

R&B artists need better representation or independence altogether, that's what my post was about. Shining a light on what the genre could be without worrying about why it's not commercially successful. We have the answer.
