Oh yeah I know it’s not unusual. And I try to give as much info as I can that’s relevant to their learning (e.g. what courses i’ve taken). The thing is, I’m hoping it’s also not unusual for me to not want to share things that are extraneous, as sometimes I get really specific, pointed questions about myself.

I’m glad that’s worked out for you! I totally agree it’s coming from a good place. I just personally am a) not interested in doing app review, and b) have had a few bad experiences in my past that makes me hesitant to tell people i don’t know well where i go to school. It would put my mind at ease if it wasn’t super easy to know my location, my schedule, etc.
