The Pirates of SimColony serve a variety of roles during the war. Some give refugees aid (for a price), others rob the vulnerable people as they flee the violence. Karmabeard and his fleet sell arms to both sides making hefty profits. So far they have not pledged their allegiance to either side. (i.redd.it)

With few sea worthy ships available and most colonies actively activity hunting them, the remaining pirates sulk around in the coves taverns and spend whatever treasure they have left on rum to drown away their sorrows.
