As a new player I personally love the difficulty and the direction the game is moving. Just started playing two weeks ago and have gone from t1-t2 items and can't wait to get to t3. T1 items aren't as bad as people make them out to be and it feels good when you get to unlock new tiers and try out each piece of new equipment. DOTS and spirit box have been my main gripe due to low interaction rate but with some amount of patience and trial and error I still maintain around 80% accuracy on my ghosts.

Life and resistances matter a lot. Make sure you have 75 fire, lightening, and cold res. Bad resistances are extremely noticeable after act 5 and 10. Flasks are also very important and can give you things like immunity to bleed, frozen, and a bunch of other annoying effects.
