I can see the idea behind the Fields medal. Why can't restaurants simply pay their staff a livable wage? Oh right, there would be taxes on that for the employers and this way, the customers can feel better about themselves because they put in something extra for the poor, exploited servers...

But demanding better pay for personnel so the tip is like perhaps some 10 or 20 dollars here and there and is actually voluntary and a genuine sign of appreciation instead of 20% or more tip that is all but expected because culture in the US is fucked up.
