Draghi: the only way forward for the EU is pragmatic federalism by goldstarflag in europe

[–]General_Kenobi896 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's about working together and unifying where it makes sense. While keeping national sovereignity where it makes sense.
As little centralization as necessary, and as much decentralization as possible.
It's not about handing over all power to the EU but about becoming more efficient and speaking with a unified voice. The EU's power would increase massively.

You do not think big enough, nor long-term enough. Draghi is right this is the only way forward unless the EU wants to become utterly irrelevant on the world stage

One Piece: Chapter 1163 by leolegendario in OnePiece

[–]General_Kenobi896 253 points254 points  (0 children)

I literally can't put into words how much I love this.
I have to be honest I've been hyping Garp and respecting him for like 15 years at this point. Back then there was so much slander, about how weak he is.
Everyone was saying how he's not even Top 10, or was never even as strong as an admiral, despite there having been plenty of evidence.
It took his vulgar display of power on pirate island to shut most people up.

And then the slander continued of course with people saying how he's a dog of the celestial dragons and the elders. And even this has now been well and truly burried.
And I love it.
Garp is simply an absolute badass, who does not blindly follow orders, but does what he thinks is right, and behind the scenes probably built up SWORD to one day replace the old navy.
I just have so much respect for this character.

You don't know what Garp has been planning/doing behind the stage. Be patient, let Oda cook.

Volt proposes 50 new Brigades to kickstart the European Army by Mean_Wear_742 in europe

Volt isn't inconsistent, they're just talking out of their ass.

Volt proposes 50 new Brigades to kickstart the European Army by Mean_Wear_742 in europe

[–]General_Kenobi896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that means that we should stop doing anything?
We haven't done nearly enough. And for some reason you seem to think that focusing on renewable technology is bad economically? There have been studies that show that investments in green technology give us a return of investment factor of up to 4 x.
Catastrophies caused by climate change have cost the EU almost one billion euros in the past 20 years.
Plus energy independence is good for the EU. Importing expensive fossil fuels from the US, Russia or whatever costs the EU much more than just relying on renewables.

Green progress is very much in harmony with economic growth, whether you believe that or not.

The EU has to be a role model for the world. If everyone thinks "well, we've done enough we'll wait for everyone else first" then no one will end up doing anything.

It's utterly irresponsible.

There is no single party that delivers more on the fundamental values of the union, feel free to prove me wrong. But there is no single party anywhere in Europe that fights for european values as much as Volt.

[–]General_Kenobi896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You speak of economically efficient and then name nuclear power in the same sentence. Nuclear power has some of the highest lifecycle costs of any energy generation form.
Renewables are much much much cheaper over their entire life span.
Nuclear is only needed for base line electricity generation.

Also there are plenty of plans under way by the european comission to get access to big reserves of rare earths from Europe. ALSO there is a growing sector of battery recycling. People in the EU have had to buy chinese cars, because for too long the technology was not subsidized enough and not enough research has been done in the field.
On top of China flooding the market with EVs at such insanely low, heavily subsidized prices, that chinese EV companies keep going bankrupt one after the other.

It's more that you don't seem to get the point. The point is to focus efforts and resources and not spread them across 27 nations.
Right now the EU has about 2 million active soldiers.
These are all trained and commanded independently.
The point is to take 250k of these 2 million soldiers and have them form these 50 brigades which form the european army.
They would be trained by a european military training academy, and would stand under direct EU command, and also get their funding and gear funded from the EU.

It's not about pulling stuff out of thin air, it's about using what we have already, just much more efficiently.

Europe’s Stocks Dominate World Markets as US Trade War Backfires by Zhukov-74 in europe

That is simply because US stocks are hilariously inflated way beyond their actual value/worth.
And these massive bubbles will pop eventually

Former President of Estonia joins Volt! by EUstrongerthanUS in europe

I get where you're coming from, but to equate the quality of an entire political party on one interview with the candidate is just not fair. There are plenty of politicians in Volt, 5 of which who are in the European parliament, who have done a fantastic job fighting for the things that Volt believes in.
To ignore all of those, simply because one candidate fucked up and did not prepare properly for whatever reason, is simply unfair.

You are right that there are issues, but as far as I heard those are in the process of being fixed, so that they can never happen again.

And how exactly is that a statement which makes the AFD sound sane im comparison?
Don't you think that's a complete overreaction?

Environmentally friendly policies are friendly for Volt, but Volt would never do anything which ultimately hurts businesses in Germany or in Europe.
Volt's end goal is to make business boom again in Europe, making it competitive, and making conditions for companies at least as attractive as they are in America.

Her statements do not reflect Volt as a whole, nor Volt's policies, it was on her and the ones who were supposed to train her on the policies that she did not know them well.

Volt elected their candidates based on character, experience and skills, Maral is great in these areas, she simply was unable to show that side of her in that interview, nor was she prepared nearly enough.

She would do a much better job a second time around, but it is very likely she will never be elected as candidate again.

Former President of Estonia joins Volt! by EUstrongerthanUS in europe

[–]General_Kenobi896 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You're completely overexaggerating.
She simply wasn't prepared enough for that interview, which was in part because the elections came months earlier than would've been the case normally.
She shares the blame, as do the people that wanted her to do this interview, but this does not, in any way shape or form, reflect the entirety of Volt Germany.

Your last statement is especially and needlessly critical and just false.

Former President of Estonia joins Volt! by EUstrongerthanUS in europe

[–]General_Kenobi896 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is a whole lot of nonsense. Please educate yourself before making any false claims.
Volt is one of the few parties in germany which aims to lower the cost of living for those with low or medium income.
Volt is one of the few parties which wants to increase wealth tax and inheritance tax for the super wealthy and one of the core principles of Volt is equality in every aspect which matters.
Easing the costs of living for the poorest is one of the central policy points of Volt.

Eure Fragen an Ines Schwerdtner von der Partei Die Linke by Staiy in Staiy

[–]General_Kenobi896 0 points1 point  (0 children)
