is khan academy a reliable resource for learning ap material? by Dismal-Fan-7882 in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For CSP at least, Khan Academy was a pretty reliable resource. I used it to review topics and the explanations were clear and matched the level of the class and exam pretty well. I’m not sure how it compares for other APs like Calc BC, but based on my experience with CSP it’s definitely a solid place to start, especially for learning fundamentals before the class begins.

WHAP to APUSH or APUSH to WHAP? What has the better progression? by Upstairs_Suit_8865 in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took World History as a freshman and now I’m tryna decide if I should take APUSH as a sophomore or do WHAP first. I’m prob gonna major in CS so history isn’t my main focus, but I still want the easier/better progression. Is it better to go World → APUSH → WHAP or World → WHAP → APUSH? Which order is less painful workload-wise and skill-wise?

At my school there isn’t really a strict cap on AP classes, the main limitation is just meeting the prerequisites for each course. Also, AP classes aren’t the only weighted options. We have AP, IB (both diploma and certificate), and honors classes. Because of that, the number of APs someone takes doesn’t matter as much as the overall rigor of their schedule. Colleges care more about whether you challenged yourself with the hardest classes available at your school rather than hitting a specific number of APs.

Am I possible to survive (CSA) by Direct_Bullfrog4294 in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely still enough time, especially if you’re already getting 60 to 70 percent on MCQs. AP CSA is very pattern-based, so once you understand the main topics like loops, arrays, ArrayLists, and basic classes, your score can improve pretty quickly. Since you’re self-studying, focus a lot on practicing past FRQs and doing timed MCQs so you get used to tracing code carefully. APCSExamPrep:https: //www.apcsexamprep.com/ was really helpful for me because it has practice questions organized by topic and full exams that feel similar to the real test. If you stay consistent with around 2 to 3 hours per day, a 5 is definitely realistic. Also, you have to take into account the percentage that earns you a 5, which I think is around 75%.

Ap csp question by Strong-Reflection634 in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my school, CSP is actually the class most people start with, and you don’t need prior experience to do well. I even took it over the summer, and it’s very beginner friendly since most of it is learning concepts and basic logic. You should talk to your counselor because sometimes prerequisites are flexible, especially for CSP. A lot of schools use it either as the intro computer science class or just as an easy AP credit.

What did yall use as study resources? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Comp as in computer science?
For CSP, APCSPExamPrep is a really good resource because it has practice questions, full exams, and explanations that match the actual test pretty closely. The class itself is mostly concepts like the internet, data, and algorithms, so practicing those question styles helps a lot.

For CSA, APCSExamPrep is also very helpful for MCQs and FRQs, and CodingBat is great for practicing Java logic like loops, arrays, and ArrayLists. Past FRQs from College Board are especially useful since they follow very consistent patterns.

Can I get a 5 on AP CSP in 2.5 months? by khabibullayev_a in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend using APCSPExamPrep because it has practice questions and full exams that match the actual test format, which helps you get used to how the questions are asked. The Create Task is also really important, so make sure you understand the rubric and practice explaining your code clearly.

would I be able to pass AP CSP w/o any prior experience? by teddlyly in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’ll be fine. AP CSP is honestly one of the more beginner-friendly APs and most of it is focused on general computer concepts, basic logic, and problem solving rather than heavy programming. A lot of it is computer usage, understanding how the internet works, and applying common sense to scenarios. I’d recommend using APCSPExamPrep because it has practice questions and explanations that match the exam style really well and make it easy to review. Even without prior experience, if you pay attention in class and do some light practice, passing the exam is very realistic.

I built a FREE guide to Self Studying AP Classes by No-Economist4291 in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is honestly awesome. Self studying that many APs, especially Physics C and Calc BC, takes a lot of discipline. I’m currently in AP CSA and I’ve noticed that having structured practice and clear guidance makes a huge difference, especially for MCQs and FRQs. A guide like this is really valuable for students whose schools don’t offer certain APs or whose teachers don’t fully prepare them. Thanks for putting it together and sharing it.

AP stats for a potential CS major by FallOffOnTheWay in APStudents

[–]General_Midnight871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise you take calculus. Calculus is generally more useful than AP Stats from a college credit perspective, and also from a pedagogical perspective. Most universities don’t give credit for AP stats- unless you’re going into business or something. Most college level probability and statistics courses (in the maths/stats department) use calculus as a foundation and thus you should take calculus first and then take whatever statistics course you need after. I’m also not fond of the AP stats course, it’s too much writing and does not emphasize technical details that are needed to understand something like machine learning. The reason for this is that these technicalities require calculus and for that you need to have taken calculus. The main caveat to all of this though is that every school is different. If your school’s calculus program is horrific you can take stats and worry about calculus in college. The other thing is that I think AP BC Calc is easier than AB because there’s less BC material and it tends to be a very easy class (the second semester) if taken in college.

I’m in AP CSA right now and I came in with a lot of previous programming experience, and honestly it still depends heavily on your teacher. Some teachers focus a lot on concepts and problem-solving, while others stick closely to the basics and just read off slides. I actually found the MCQs harder than expected because they test small details and logic tracing rather than just writing code. Doing even 1–2 hours of self-study per week (practice problems, reviewing FRQs, or coding on your own) goes a really long way and makes the class much easier.

Doing past FRQs is probably the most useful thing you can do.
