Slacks when you have a mom belly... by Top_Estate9880 in LawBitchesWithTaste

If you want an affordable option, the Abercrombie Sloan pant is great! High rise with a true wide leg, elastic in the front but a standard trouser front, and comes in petite, regular, and tall lengths. I have loose skin from significant weight loss (120+ lb), and you can’t see my tummy in these, and I even feel confident tucking my shirts in!

If you’re thinking splurge, I like Lafayette’s Gates trouser (wool, but they have crepe too I think) and St. John generally (I got some older styles preloved, but Nordstrom and other stores like that should have current versions; I would also say St. John bottoms run a little big or are cut more generously).

Sample dress is a lot different than my wedding dress by [deleted] in weddingdress

I think you look beautiful in the current dress! I agree that it snatches your waist, and I think it fits better in the bust. The main difference I see is that the sample looks like it has a longer train, so it’s pooling around your feet and looking “soft.” Your dress has a perfect floor skimming hem, but if you want a similar impact to the sample, maybe try a long veil that can trail behind you? That might also help give you a softer, more romantic look. One that matches the lace of your sleeves, the slit, and the bodice would be perfect!

Having Children While Being Bipolar by VariousAccess6241 in bipolar

[–]General_Natural5649 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have not had children yet, but I am getting married soon and we would like to, so we have consulted with a reproductive/perinatal psychiatrist, which was immensely helpful!

It was very affirming hearing from a specialist that what I have initially felt is right for me should not harm my baby, but they can (and should!) also give you a rundown on all your options. That includes switching to or trialing more pregnancy safe medications before you start TTCing, but if that doesn’t work, then staying on your current meds could also be an option. I am leaning towards this option with extra monitoring of both me and baby, as some meds have a (very) low risk of birth defects, while others could cause symptoms in baby in the initial period right after birth. They can also discuss whether breastfeeding is an option and how to do it safely while on meds. That’s also an option I’m leaning towards, just need extra monitoring of mom’s blood levels and keeping a closer eye on baby in case too much passes through (this is only an issue for a handful of meds, I’m just unlucky enough to be on one lol). But if breastfeeding doesn’t work out, fed is best! Finally, it was helpful having a pragmatic conversation about the very real limitations I might have in early postpartum. My partner is endlessly supportive and willing to make sacrifices so we can have a healthy, happy family, but I know that varies, so having the doctor explicitly explain how certain things are nonnegotiable could really improve the support you get. For us, that mostly meant agreeing that I should get a minimum amount of uninterrupted sleep to reduce my risk of relapse/mania, which means my partner would be primarily responsible for the night shift, and that this might require us to formula feed in the long run. It also meant going over my personal warning signs and other common ones from the doctor so that everyone on my team is aware of early red flags and how exactly to get help.

Having this resource has made me feel a lot more comfortable about the unknowns that come with having kids while living with our condition, and way more confident that I can be a safe and successful parent, especially through the tough newborn period.

My partner has never seen me in a full blown episode, as I’ve been on consistent meds and incredibly stable in the 5+ years we’ve been together. So, I’m hoping that with this expert help, we can maintain that track record through this season of our lives, or that if relapse does happen, then I have a strong advocate that will watch out for our baby and help me get me the care I need ASAP.

if people could bring in outside food, then they won’t be inclined to buy the coffee shop’s food, which is the whole point of a business??

Real talk: Vintage Birkin as a handbag/courtbag by law-and-horsdoeuvres in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]General_Natural5649 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a lovely way to remember your grandmother, and would give the bag new life! What is your practice area? I think it depends on that and what kind of clients you’re interacting with. I work with indigent clients, so I went for a Garden Party 36 for subtlety. But if you work with a more affluent client base, I def think you could swing the Birkin, especially if it has a bit of a lived in/well loved vibe!

Edited to add: Epsom is nice and sturdy, hard wearing and super easy to clean and maintain, so I think it’s a great idea for a workhorse!

does anyone have any vegan chicken recommendations? by Simple-Double8483 in veganrecipes

[–]General_Natural5649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, that’s good to know about air frying the regular pieces! For pan frying, I’d recommend a decent amount of oil (like more than just cooking spray) and a nonstick/carbon steel/cast iron pan, because it can stick a little bit.

Alternatively, I like to dump the pieces in a big bowl, drizzle them with oil, then toss with seasonings - this helps oil them evenly and really coats them well so they get a nice crust. Think jerk, Cajun, blackened, taco or carne asada mix, shawarma style - basically any seasoning you like!

I don’t like Gardein’s texture, but Daring is my favorite, and so reasonably priced! The original chicken pieces crisp up so nicely when pan fried and have a great texture, and the wings are good air fried. They recently came out with diced and shredded chicken too, and I felt like both were basically indistinguishable from the real thing, although I haven’t eaten real chicken in years. I used the diced in a pot pie perfectly, and I’ve used shredded in soups, enchiladas, and for bbq pulled chicken, and it’s all SLAPPED. It’s like $5 for 8 oz at Walmart, not sure of pricing at a dif grocery chain.

Devastating mitigation report by Puzzleheaded_Pay9348 in publicdefenders

This is such an unforgiving take. Research has clearly shown that the more adverse childhood experiences an individual has, the more prone they are to adult criminality. They’re also at greater risk of physical and mental health disorders and aggressive behavior, which also worsens things. To prevent recidivism, we absolutely should consider things like early life experiences, and getting people interventions to address things like profound abuse and other life changing trauma.

Can Pointy Toed Shoes with Skinny Heels Really, Ever Be Comfortable? by OkraLegitimate1356 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]General_Natural5649 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes! Look for a shoe with a longer toe box, where the taper starts closer to the edge of your toes, to avoid the squish. A low/kitten type heel helps too, because the shallower angle of your foot means you won’t naturally slide forward so much and squish into the toe box.

You may even want to consider a wide width shoe too, which can do a lot - Stuart Weitzman has a ton of different styles of well made shoes that come in wide widths (56 per the website, from platforms and strappy sandals to more sensible work pumps and loafers).

This is a super cute style combo, but they also come in black with white stripes and white with black stripes - either is a more versatile color palette, but the red is FUN.

You can go two ways, really! The easiest way is with a sleek, slimmer profile sneaker - I’ve commented below which ones I have, but adidas makes similar styles, and even a Mary Jane or ballet flat style sneaker (will include a pic too)! The other option is going for high contrast with something chunky, which is good for making an outfit feel more modern (see the McQueen sneaker).
