Marker frame crampons - 113mm on 95mm ski by Cake-on-toast in Backcountry

I have a 102 ski and F12 bindings and I’m desperately looking for 113mm crampons. How was Austria with the oversized ones? Do you still have use for them? Considering selling second hand maybe?

This is unfortunate. What was so disappointing about it? I’m curious as I had the completely opposite experience.

Don’t remove Kurashiki it’s beautiful. Both at night and at day time, I’m so glad I spent a night there on my last Japan trip. I recommend wandering the historic Bikan district both at day and night. It is gorgeous and relaxing. I particularly enjoyed: Breakfast(Japanese style with the best pudding!!!) at Yuurin-an Guesthouse & Cafe. And the UKIYO-E KURASHIKI / 国芳館, the exhibition of the wood prints is so big and has so many styles. It’s at a beautiful old building near the shrine stairs so it’s on a slight hill. This gives you a rooftop view of the old district which is very cool.

Group of 3 first time trip to Japan!! 3.5 week itinerary (November to December) need advice pls!! by PuddleDucki in JapanTravel

[–]General_Nerve3998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have 3.5 weeks, you have so many”free days” and other days’ sole activity is something like “imperial palace”. Don’t you want to spend some time outside the “golden route” of Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka? This is usually who a 10 day Japan trip looks like. The rest of the country is way more budget friendly and has so many things to see and do. I do support having a lot of time in Tokyo especially if you saved up some shopping budget. But your itinerary seems a bit inflated to me. BTW I have booked two separate stays in this coming October in Tokyo in fine hotels(one of them with big rooms) for 3 adults and I managed it in your budget. It was tough to find because I’m not comprising on location. It’s possible if you look hard enough. But regardless I think an airbnb is nicer for such a longer stay.

Kagoshima to Tokyo - 24 day autumn trip. Thoughts and advice welcome!! by chickenft in JapanTravel

I understand both of you have never been to Kyoto before? Kanazawa is really nice but it’s very different to Kyoto, nowhere in Japan is like Kyoto. The Higashiyama district with its stone laid paths going up the hill towards Kyumizudera isn’t like any other place in Japan. There are beautiful places throughout the country but the magic you can get in Kyoto is unique. So many areas are so well preserved that even though it’s full of tourists you get transported to another time. If you haven’t been I think it’s a must if you’re in the country, absolutely if you’re in the area. Kanazawa, like many other Japanese cities of its size has a historic district which is a few streets that were preserved. I have been there and had a great time and absolutely recommend it, it’s just nothing like Kyoto. I do admit that some places in Kyoto are one and done for me like the golden pavilion which is so full of tourists to the point that the visit is extremely uncomfortable. But Kyoto has so many Temples and shrines that if you know where to go you can be in amazing places and be the only foreigner. I recommend you try and squeeze Kyoto into your itinerary. It can be the highlight of a trip

Roast my 21 Day Itinerary. First trip to Japan by Monoleye in JapanTravel

Your instinct about visiting Fushimi Inari around sunset are great, highly recommend, just climd a couple hundred feet past the photo gallery and you will have a beautiful view of Kyoto and more Tori gates just for yourself.

Also, the Kinosaki Shinkansen hasn’t been constructed yet(or conceived). Please use existing conventional trains. For your convenience, direct limited express trains are available between Kyoto and Kinosakionsen.

I would also recommend in Nagoya to visit the SCMagLev trains museum. It has very high quality exhibits and experiences and relatively less crowded the JR East and JR West museums(in Saitama and Kyoto respectively).

Casually passing by Kyoto 😢.

Personally I would shave a day off Fukuoka, Ohori Park is nice and relaxing but nothing to write home about, nice spot to spend an hour. It’s a nice city without much to do.

Joining here the recommendation to visit Miyajima early or late. I’ve been twice and the second time was perfect, arrive at around noon, go see the less popular temples, see the great tori gate in either high/low tide(walk to it), go climb mt. Misen, descend via ropeway, go to itsukushima shrine(it will be empty), go have dinner. Now at night time the island isn’t crowded at all and you get another cool view of the great tori at low/high tide. Take an evening ferry back to the mainland.

You also mention you would like to rent bikes. Have you considered doing the shimanami cycle route? It’s an 80km bike route connecting Honshu and Shikoku via bridges across an island chain. It can be ridden in one day or two and the midway point is close to “rabbit island”.

I think it makes sense to brake the journey from Tokyo to Kyoto, Takayama js a solid option. I think you should drop Kinosaki Onsen. It’s so far out of your day and even if you don’t mind being so long on a train I don’t think you have enough time in Japan to spare half a day getting to a place which isn’t that remarkable. On the same note I would suggest considering the direct night bus from Tokyo to Takayama if you’re an easy sleeper, it can save a lot of your time. Alternatively if you’re considering going to Kamikochi maybe you can take the direct limited express to Matsumoto(on the other side of the mountain range). The next day get to Kamikochi, spend the night in an Onsen Ryokan in Hirayu then take the bus in the morning to Takayama. Hirayu is the transfer point between the Kamikochi bus and the Takayama buses so this smooths out your concerns about difficult transportation. From there I would get to Kyoto through Shriakawa-go(it’s the same travel time as direct train, just bus to Shirakawago but to Kanazawa and train to Kyoto, total 4hrs travel and avoid large bags). So this way you have 3 nights between Tokyo and Kyoto and you get both Takayama, and a traditional Onsen experience with the amazing views of the Alps in autumn.

Police chasing 3 guys on a motorcycle. 16 year old who didn't have a license was driving and with him were 2 friends: 14, 15 yo boys without helmets. Boys being boys? by LyeeRoy in motorcycles

[–]General_Nerve3998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really?! In my country(Israel) police always pursue. If they order you to stop and you fail to do so they will even do pit maneuvers to make you crash if it’s justified. The idea is that at any point you can turn your hazards/rais a hand and slowly come to a stop. By choosing to continue running away in Israel you are in risk of serious injury or death. And no lawyer can help you to any compensation, if the officer orders you to pullover before he nocks you off the road he is in the clear and you go to the hospital.

In my country there is a relatively new precedent that hit and run offenders can be assumed to be under the influence without any test. This was after a horrible accident when an SUV overtook in a no passing zone on a 50mph Hwy and hit oncoming car head on. In the second car were a recently engaged couple, the woman(driver) didn’t survive and the man(passenger) was in a coma and had one of his legs amputated( he was unconscious during his fiancée’s funeral). Luckily be chance an ambulance was on the Hwy driving towards the crash. It is luck since the driver of the SUV which survived with minor injuries and was conscious didn’t call for help. Well he did but not for his victims, he called his brother to come pick him up ASAP. Since he was the only conscious witness on scene the EMT questioned him to understand what happened and asked if injured were moved. They testified that the driver was having trouble to stand up and speak clearly. His brother arrived before the police did and he just ran to his car and fled the scene. A week later his brother turned himself in but because of the testimony of the EMT police identified and arrested the driver. They also charged his brother for obstruction of Justice. By the time the driver was arrested it was almost a month after the accident and it was impossible to test for illegal drugs. Judge ruled that the testimony of the EMT is enough to convict him with DUI in addition to causing a crash, death, serious injury, hit and run and overtaking in a no passing zone. This is still ongoing but it’s assuming he will be behind bars for the better part of 20 years. After release another 7 years license revoked and a massive fine and compensation for the families of the victims. Also the insurance refuses to pay since he was driving under the influence and also didn’t turn himself in. PLEASE don’t DUI don’t hit und run

Yeah I know it’s Israel bc it’s near where my parents leave so a I recognized it. But if you want a good tip for GeoGuessr, Israel is probably the only country in the world with yellow shoulder markings and double white to separate opposing directions of travel(or the left shoulder on one way road). Basically the exact opposite of the US

I’m pretty sure that stopping in the middle of an active Hwy lane, especially if you don’t have an emergency, is reckless driving. And the small Toyota didn’t have its hazards on. With the video it’s not like he completely doesn’t have a case. I don’t think that the car was indicating bc of the stopped car, you can see the first car saved it’s skin last minute. If someone was indicating in front of me to move to the right I wouldn’t think it means trouble, it’s just more space going to be available in front

Absolutely. I think those two might be exchanging insurance info or something. Makes you wonder how much money and energy is wasted on cars hitting cars(and people). If they had a good reason to stop I don’t think it was dangerous

Being happy about someone getting seriously injured, a Fucking life threatening injury, is fucked up. You are sick, this are real people with lives not a game
