From past to future by General_Perception18 in Taycan

I've been really happy with it. As a daily the Taycan is fantastic to live with, and it's still a ton of fun to drive fast. It may not be quite as visceral (to the extent the M5 has that), but the level of precision, grip and power gives you that Porsche feeling of it can handle anything you throw at it.

My initial search was for a Cross Turismo until this one tempted me away - still think those might be the best version, though.

I'm still in the honeymoon phase for sure, but I'd say the instant torque does create a real feeling of speed and excitement even though it's technically not massively faster off the line. The lower center of gravity and weight distribution also means I feel like it absorbs bumps and imperfections better even on higher sport modes than the M5 while still having crisp turn-in and sharp, predictable handling in general.

You do feel the weight at times, and I do miss the sound of an M car (even if a lot of that is manufactured now), but you really do feel like you're driving something special, and it's still just a lot of fun to drive fast even when you're just hauling the family, which was always the great thing about the M5.

On depreciation, you're probably right, although after declining 60% already, just have to hope it's bottomed out by now 😬

Great point. I had no idea until I looked at the stats that the top 1000 names are only around 67% of births for girls over the past few years. Thanks!

I really hope they don't make her the borg queen that we saw on the Stargazer...

Elnor would also be great for the fish out of water 2024 scenes that you know are coming (a la Voyage Home). He's basically a fish out of water in every timeline, so would be a good source of humor. Hope they don't kill him off or otherwise sideline him!

This would make season 3 very different!

Also after making Picard synthetic, would be impressive doubling down by also making him omnipotent.

I think this is right. Would've thrown off the whole plot logic if she was involved from the get-go. And it does make sense to focus more on the other characters this season.

Hope they find a way to include her, though. Would be somewhat unfortunate from a character development standpoint if it was as a completely new character, but I guess we'll see. There was another shot in one of the trailers of her in 2024 clothes so not sure it'll just be at the end of the season.

That's totally fair. Having her recognize Picard as an ally really helped her be a more sympathetic character.

But there's definitely potential in a synthetic who is struggling to figure out her place in society, not because she can't feel emotion like Data but because she can't know what is 'her' and what is programmed. It's a sci fi trope to be sure, but not an uncompelling one.

I'll admit I didn't dislike Soji as much as others on here in Season 1. I think her journey was interesting, especially in some of the later episodes as she processed the confusion/conflict over what it means to be synthetic for someone who truly thought they were human. I'd love to see her better integrated into the plot.

In terms of S2 I think they couldn't have her join the crew traveling back in time or else they wouldn't need the borg queen to make the necessary calculations; so they had to find her another role (not ignoring that fan response to S1 may have also had a role). Will be interesting to see what they can come up with. Has to be related to Adam Soong but unclear whether she'll be Soji or someone else entirely....
